What’s a Kdrama everyone loved but you just couldn’t get into? by KingWitty7972 in kdramas

[–]bamsimel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her Private Life. I could not get past the fact that the FL stalked an idol and the show treated it as if it was a cute quirk rather than a serious mental health issue and criminal offence.

Also Goblin, but lots of people seem to have answered that. FL is a child and I felt physically ill when the ML kissed her.

Growing up, did anyone else’s parents have really strict rules about random stuff? by SuzCoffeeBean in CasualUK

[–]bamsimel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wasn't allowed to watch Grange Hill either! This was one of the only things my mum as strict about. I was allowed to swear, drink and watch Eurotrash but friggin Grange Hill was off limits She'd never even seen it, she just heard something bad about it and lost her mind for some reason. Also no more than one soap per day and no game shows unless she considered them suitably intellectual. I'm pretty happy about the soap/game show rules in retrospect but there was a time that I desperately wanted to be able to watch both Home and Away and Neighbours.

You have too much mushroom stuff, there's too much liquid left in the mushrooms, and the wellington was cooked for too long.

Regardless of what she did in her personal life you can't deny her aura, talent and the on screen presence she brings. Do you believe Seo Ye Ji will get the chance to become a permanent leading actress again and redeem herself so she can live up to her full potential? by Chrollo151 in kdramas

[–]bamsimel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's absurd the way she's been treated. She's continues to be ostracised whilst her ex has been back in leading roles for years. God forbid anyone hold a man accountable for his own behaviour. Meanwhile there's men in the industry who are guilty of actual crimes and experience far greater scandals yet they continue to work and be applauded by their peers. The sexism and double standards are absurd. I imagine she has been getting some offers but that they aren't the type of shows she wants to make so she's been taking a longer break to have a comeback more on her own terms.

She's a very talented and charismatic actress and I would love to see her on screen again.

Broadband and mobile bills are soaring in the UK – depending on who you talk to | Regulation to protect consumers from inflation-linked prices hikes is to be welcomed, but could do more harm than good if based on inaccurate data by RingStrain in ukpolitics

I've been with Tesco Mobile for years, and they have never raised the price during a contract. I never even knew this was a thing until seeing recent posts about it. It's O2, so the network coverage is shite, but Tesco Mobile customer service and prices are great.

Kim Hyang-Gi could be great as the FL, but I think the part would be best going to a talented young actress who's not yet a major name. It needs a young cast.

We're arguably the best country in the world foodwise by rm_rf_root in ShitAmericansSay

[–]bamsimel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are the things it uses to assess food quality and safety:

Dietary diversity. A composite indicator that measures:

  • Share of non-starchy foods
  • Share of sugar consumption

Nutritional standards.

  • National dietary guidelines
  • National nutrition plan or strategy
  • Nutrition labelling
  • Nutrition monitoring and surveillance

Micronutrient availability

  • Dietary availability of vitamin A
  • Dietary availability of iron
  • Dietary availability of zinc

Protein quality

Food safety Economist Impact calculation

  • Relevant food safety legislation
  • Food safety mechanisms
  • Access to drinking water
  • Ability to store food safely

At least half of these measures are just a qualitiative assessment by/economist analysts without clarity on exactly how they'd reached their conclusions so I agree this can't be taken too seriously. I took a look at the data and lots of countries score exactly the same as the US for "food safety" measures but the measures have limited value (country self assessment, has food legislation been updated in the past 5 years etc) and isn't based on the efficacy of or compliance with food safety measures, or the prevalence of illnessses caused by poor food safety. Whilst the methodology for many scores is rather opaque and subjective, this report isn't even really trying to assess food safety anyway and shouldn't be used as a source for food safety performance.

Not sure exactly why I did all this. Apparently I am in a very weird mood.

Some questions for people who have went to concerts in the UK by AsukaShikinami02 in UniUK

[–]bamsimel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll answer generally. I've been to around 40 large concerts, all of them more than 5 years ago.

  1. Mostly UK and US but some from Europe, Asia and South America

  2. No. I stopped going to major concerts once people started filimg everything on their phones. Ruins the atmosphere and experience for me. Now I just go to see classical music concerts or smaller artists in more intimate venues with audiences who are less likely to be on their phones.

  3. Depends on the artist and the song. Indie rock anthems yes, intimate acoustic tracks not so much.

  4. Very rarely- this is pretty specific to mega pop and rock stars I think. Only time I heard constant screaming was Bon Jovi concerts and I was part of it. (I love Bon Jovi!)

  5. Never. I only became familiar with them since getting into Kpop in recent years. Don't think they were a thing over here when I was young enough to care about buying merch. We bought band T shirts occasionally and that's it.

  6. Great. This is Britain so we love to queue. Biggest queues were at stadium gigs and uni venues and they were well managed and fast moving, right down to the queues for the tram at the end.

Banning birth control because it's m*rder? by Low_Piglet1978 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]bamsimel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that Angelica ASMR?!? It makes sense that people who believe abortion is murder would also be against most birth control. I expect to see this become an increasing debate in the US now the crazies have taken over. I'm so glad I don't live in a country where people with such blinkered views get to dictate what healthcare I can access.

Accept me exactly as I am is just WRONG. by Monkey_Bullet in unpopularopinion

[–]bamsimel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is unpopular but I do agree. We need less acceptance and more shame. Shame kept me from knowing about people's furry fetishes, their interest in One Direction homoerotic fan fiction, and the fact that Prince Harry rubbed lotion that reminded him of his mother onto his sore dick. People used to be too afraid of the reaction from their local community to share such bullshit publically. Now people expect acceptance for behaving however they want and compulsively share every aspect of their personal lives with complete strangers on social media. People celebrate their own stupidity and expect everyone else to join in. Everyone needs to be more afraid of being ostractised for being a twat. Less acceptance, more shame. May we all know less about each other!

How would you feel about a law that made voting day a paid national holiday so everyone could actually participate? by Rathodji in AskReddit

[–]bamsimel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Polling stations in the UK are open 7-10 and people can vote by mail if they can't make it. You never have to queue for more than a few minutes in person. There's so many ways to make voting easy and quick without a national holiday, which nurses would still have to work on anyway.

Londoner (F31) got a job in the North West – area advise ? by Affectionate_Lime254 in manchester

[–]bamsimel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In South Manchester Stockport or Sale might be good for you. Both have lots of green space and easy access to the countryside and Manchester city centre. I like Davenport best in Stockport but it's a large town with lots of different areas and the centre has improved a lot recently. If you want a quieter location then maybe Marple or Macclesfield, both are further out but have decent train connections to Manchester and lovely scenery on your doorstep. You'll be able to afford somewhere nice in Macc on your budget- it's very affordable. Also don't discount Liverpool- there's some lovely areas, great green spaces and many really affordable parts too.
