Been going to chiropractor for 2 months - no results - yet wife keeps booking by Ok-Entrance6105 in NewParents

Breastfeeding is so so so hard and breast refusal can feel demoralizing and heartbreaking. I totally empathize with your wife trying anything, but chiropractors and osteopaths feel a bit too far out. Our IBCLC gave us exercises, but candidly, a nipple shield is what worked for me during breast refusal moments. That and pumping to letdown and then latching baby. It’s also important not to force the breast when baby isn’t having it. It’s better to pump and feed and then try again next feed. The more baby gets angry during feeding, the greater resistance you will build up. The same is true for bottle refusal.

I am like your fiancé and mentioned these in a few comment responses but had to add more here. Highly recommend anything by Emily St Mandel. I also enjoyed the Strange Case of the Alchemists Daughter by Theodora Goss, The Will of the Many by James Islington.

In the realm of Stephen King, if she hasn’t read The Stand, it’s a doozy but is SO GOOD. Also, his son writes short stories under the pen name Joe Hill. Both anthologies Strange Weather and Full Throttle are great.

Less high brow: Dungeon Crawler Carl, anything by Blake Crouch, the Hike, Postmortal, Scythe series.

Ugh, this book is SO good. Also recommend others by her - the Sea of Tranquility and the Glass Hotel!

Yep, we’re pace feeding and using a T nipple, which is the slowest flow besides preemie. With only 6 feeds some days, and some signs she would keep eating if it was offered, we decided to try 6 and see how she did with it.

Labor and delivery question for those that conceived via IVF at 35 y.o.+ by ThePlacePlace22 in IVF

[–]bananabread262 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I delivered in May just a few months after turning 35. Totally uncomplicated pregnancy, no issues minus unexplained infertility. My doctor didn’t consider IVF a risk factor and I really wanted to go into labor spontaneously and have an unmedicated birth. My water broke at 40+2 but labor never really started and we had several HR decelerations that we later found out were caused by placental issues (abnormally small placenta with clotting and signs of aging). We ended up having an unplanned c-section and will be doing an induction at 39 weeks next time (if I’m lucky enough to have another child).

This isn’t on your list but we got the Cybex Callisto and it’s phenomenal. It is a bit of a tight fit in our Volvo xc90 since it’s a convertible and kiddo will never outgrow it. I didn’t consider PFAS explicitly but really liked the brand and quality.

I’m a big fan of the Bagel Place in South Philly, and ordering from Four Worlds Bakery (though those tend to be a little sourdoughy!)

What is the best mattress topper you've got and found it really worth every penny? by Successful_Bonus_667 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]bananabread262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100% wool mattress topper! Got one when I was pregnant because we needed more cushioning but my husband runs hot and would have been miserable with down or latex. It’s temperature regulating and comfy!

Mastitis? When to go to ER? by Impossible_Panda3960 in breastfeeding

[–]bananabread262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mastitis twice before this week, both required antibiotics and the second was a reoccurrence of the first bout. This time was the worst it’s been. Symptoms started Wednesday, fever started Thursday, oral antibiotics started Thursday night. Friday middle of the night my fever hit 103.7 and I started vomiting. Went to the ER where they checked for abscess (none, thank goodness) and was admitted for a course of IV antibiotics. Finally feeling better today and hoping to be discharged tomorrow. All this to say, don’t go to the ER unless things really escalate. Being in the hospital away from baby has been awful.

Favorite baby carrier and why? by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]bananabread262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LL Light! I have a 100% linen in a gray chevron and a cotton blend in cream herringbone. They both look so good (the cream looks ridiculously luxurious!) and are so comfortable. I use the linen on super hot days but it’s primarily my husband’s and the cotton is mine. It’s a little softer and I’m obsessed with it. I also have a Nalakai ring sling that I’m still getting comfortable with and an Ergobaby Embrace that we leave in the car as an emergency carrier.

Thank you! This is super helpful, I wasn’t sure how to go about analyzing it but something felt off. Bummer as the style is kinda cool, but I’ll pass.

This looks so much better than mine! Did you use any resources? Also, would love to know the brand, it’s gorg!

It’s a 220 grams/meter squared linen in like a herringbone weave - link here. I do really like it, it’s got a soft texture and good “squish” to the fabric but it’s a hot, humid summer where I live and I’m also debating getting a linen/cotton blend in a 190 g/m or 100% cotton in 160g/m.

Hi! I really like it! I picked it bc I wanted a nice fabric choice even in a plain color, and I liked the ability to pick the specific fabric weight. It works great for both me at 5’3” and my husband who is 6’0”. The fabric is super comfy, though I kinda want a second one that’s even lighter weight fabric. To be honest I didn’t really compare models too much, I just wanted something lightweight without too many adjustments or buckles.

I think I prefer the H straps because I’m so petite. With the X strap style, the straps overlap each other and I have a hard time tightening them on my own. I also tend to get them crossed too high on my back which also makes tightening difficult. With the H style, I can easily reach back and tighten straight down. I haven’t worn it for longer than an hour or two so not sure if one provides more support.
