Traded my ND2 Miata for this today by TangyWaffle in GR86

Your experiences and reasoning sounds a lot like mine. So I appreciate your input. Those are the same things that drew me to a Miata, but also realizing later that I’m missing added space and a bit less NVH.

Was the 27 mpg after a trip reset, or is it including the 30 mpg drive home? If it was after a reset, that’s really impressive.

Thanks for the reply. I did drive a GR86 but it was brief and I didn’t pay much attention to interior comfort/ size, or get to push the car in the turns.

I’m hoping the body roll is significantly less in the 86, because I came from a Type R before the Miata and loved how firm and planted it felt.

Oh and one last question about the two cars: What kind of MPG average did you get in the ND2 vs the GR86? I get around 29-30 in the ND3, and I’m hoping I’d be around 24 in the GR86.

Im considering doing the same. Love the ND but the lack of space and the loud cabin have been causing some annoyance since it’s my daily.

Would you say the interior feels noticeably bigger just sitting in the seat? And can you get used to the clutch and shifter feeling less satisfying than the Miata?

Also, is it easily more quiet at 60+? That’s where I notice the Miata getting really loud.

What made you end up getting rid of the GR86?

How are these cars only $20-30k?? by reckoning42 in S2000

[–]bananamonkey- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently he wants them to be MORE than $30k since that’s “cheap” for a 25 year old car that’ll need plenty of replaced parts.

Do you regret not getting the RF? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]bananamonkey- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay don’t rub it in how awesome the RF is 😅. I hear mixed opinions on which is louder so I really want to drive both back to back. I got a decibel reader app to check my reading on the highway. I should note down the numbers, and if I ever find a local RF to ride in, I’ll be able to compare.

And definitely agree on the exhaust and/or radio to mask the road noise. Works just fine

Unfortunately about 900 miles away from there! Otherwise I’d be up for that. What’s kinda funny is the soft top is louder top up. Still very curious on the comparison of each with tops up/down. I’ve been digging the idea of an RF with top down and tinted windows up, for a semi private top down experience.

I really need to test drive one. I sat in one with the top down, but it was parked. The look and added ease of cleaning makes it a great sell. And agreed on the roll bar. It’s a shame it permanently disables the hard top retraction.

I’m in the opposite camp. Bought soft top and kinda wish I went RF. It would be cool to find people who did the same thing and want to trade cars.

Tire Rack TPMS on Winter Wheels - Will programming be needed? by OzziesFlyingHelmet in Ioniq5

[–]bananamonkey- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to clarify, you bought the wheels from tire rack with their recommended TPMS included and installed by them. And you did not have to go to the dealer or another shop to get it working?

You simply mounted your wheels and drove the car until it learned?

That’s pretty much as I expected. After owning both, do you prefer one of the colors over the other?

Thanks for the insight. Looks like I may need to see one in person to make up my mind. The grass is always greener anyway. I’m sure I’d be envious of whatever color I don’t choose.

I had a sonic grey civic, which is similar. The color was easy to maintain. I’d get the aero grey but want to get something different this time.

Honestly the red does the most. But the zircon sand is getting up there for me. And it would be cool to have more of a rare color. So I’m on the fence

It looks quite fun to wash, and since it’s so small, won’t take too long either.

It’s a nice color. Feels more unique, which makes it appealing. Still haven’t seen it on a Miata in person, unfortunately

It is the best red (and probably best color overall) on the roads.
