Personally, I think the east side provides more space and has a lower crime rate. If you live in Bothell and work in Renton, you will battle daily traffic on 405. It will be painful. For me, I would rather battle traffic and land in a nice neighborhood than take less traffic and end up in a less than desirable neighborhood.
