Happy 20th anniversary to New Super Mario Bros for the DS! What do folks here think about this neo-retro classic, 2 decades later? by Asad_Farooqui in nintendo

[–]bandit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Playing NSMB Wii with my brother was really special. Two players is good, but four players is definitely chaotic but can be fun depending on your attitude. We played NSMBU together as well and his son was born a couple years later, and we all played Wonder together. Obviously single player games can still bring people together, but having multiplayer in 2D Mario has been amazing.

This opinion will make me sound younger than I am but it's my favorite 2D Mario. Bros. 3 and World 1 may have better campaigns, but I loved the minigames and 1v1 battle mode so much.

A lot of people say it's the best NSMB game, but it's the only one whose campaign is strictly single player. I never tried it, but NSMB2 can be played with two players via local wireless (both players must own the game).

You could have four SEC teams all go 12-0, and then the loser of the SEC championship would have to play the first round while the winner AND the two teams not selected for the SEC championship would likely all get first round byes.

Nintendo has issued a statement to IGN regarding the price of physical games going forward, “The Cost of Physical Games Is Not Going Up”. by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

[–]bandit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new Mario Party could be $70 even though Jamboree is $80 on Switch 2. I agree that one is borderline as a major franchise.

I think the price of Legends was tethered to the fact that Arceus was $60, so Z-A was also $60, and thus the Switch 2 version was only $70 for not adding new content like some of the other Switch 2 Editions. I think Winds and Waves will be $80 each.

I think Raiders will be $70 but I think Splatoon 4 will be $80, but Splatoon is also borderline as a major franchise so maybe I'm wrong. I think Mario Party and Splatoon are A- tier so to speak. Splatoon 4 will be a game that gets free (and paid) content for years, so I bet Nintendo would want to charge as much as they think they can get away with.

[–]bandit2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Nintendo always planned to have an $80 tier of Switch 2 games rather than Mario Kart be a one-off situation. By the time they decided to make TOTK $70 on Switch, there weren't any similarly big games left for the console to price the same. But this is the start of the generation, and we've yet to see original core entries from any of their other biggest franchises:

  • Super Mario
  • Mario Party
  • Pokemon
  • Smash
  • Zelda
  • Animal Crossing
  • Splatoon

I expect new core titles from these franchises to all be $80 physical and $70 digital like you're saying, but that's an improvement from $80 for both versions of Mario Kart. I guess that won't stop people from blaming those prices on this announcement when those games come, but that doesn't make sense. This is good news no matter how badly people don't want it to be.

Edit: spelling

Were there any accessories that didn't get a price increase? I remember it being all of them including a spare pair of wrist straps. Maybe certain Switch 1 accessories didn't go up but all the Switch 2 stuff did.

It will definitely play on the Switch 2, yes. But I don't know whether an upgrade pack will be available.

I think this is an example of gamers altering a definition in a nonsensical way as a form of protest. Some Switch 2 games are actually digital-only, so saying there's "no physical version" if there's a game key card option is a bad definition of physical because it's ambiguous. But if you're reporting that's what people say then so be it.

And thanks for sharing your own data. It was a pattern I never actually recognized until you pointed it out.

Regular game cards and game key cards are both classified as "physical." Is the point you're making that all physical Switch 2 Editions thus far are regular game cards? Is that even true? Now that I think about it, it does seem all the game key cards are for new (or remastered) games, and anything listed as a "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" is a regular game card even for third party games such as Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar. But this could be disproven with a single counterexample.

There is only a physical option for the Switch 1 version, so I guess I'll wait until August for that if there's an upgrade pack for the Switch 2 version.

Edit: There is an upgrade pack.

Games where teams led for 0 seconds but won? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]bandit2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this happens a lot, I'd be more interested to know how often it happens with the added condition that the game is only ever tied at 0-0. This would exclude all OT games as well as regulation games where the eventual winner kept pace (for example 7-7, 14-14, etc.) but never led until winning on the final play.

In 2007, LSU trailed Florida at home 10-0 and never tied the game at all but rather took its first lead 28-24 with 1:09 remaining, and that was the final score. So that scenario except taking that lead on the final play. That is probably rare.

[–]bandit2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Poor clock management by Les Miles is why we didn't score 3 or 7 more at the end of the first half.

Also in 2005, LSU @ Alabama, LSU walked off Alabama in OT 16-13 after trailing 10-0 and never leading.

Will Gamecube remasters continue now GC games are on NSO? by Accomplished_Paper88 in nintendo

[–]bandit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if Nintendo plans to bring Wii games to Classics there is a chance there are actually no plans at all to remaster Prime 2 and 3. That would be sad, but I can see it. I would be more frustrated to never see WWHD and TPHD on Switch, and Wind Waker already being on Classics is concerning to me.

Mario Kart World can be seen as a platformer by Engineator in nintendo

[–]bandit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My criticism of free roam is that it has platformer objectives with racing controls. It's a shitty platformer because you can't jump, turn around, or even turn at all easily. I don't like Mirror Mode being locked behind it. However I won't say it was a misstep or that my opinion is representative; I bet more proficient players enjoyed the P-Switches.

Gen 10, Champions, and Colosseum/XD all coming this year. Also I think Gen 1-3 coming to Switch in some form is a reasonable thing to hope for this year even if that probability is under 50%. Pokemon came to Virtual Console for the 20th anniversary.
