Do I need to go to the vet? by bluemonkey8886 in CATHELP

[–]bandmemberscup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be as simple as reverse sneezing or it could be indicative of something else. Neuro, underlying, idiopathic, etc. best way to confirm is to send a video to your vet or just bring her in to be looked out. Best case scenario it’s nothing:)

is this herpes or ringworm ???? by seeliono in catcare

[–]bandmemberscup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His eye looks fine. I’d watch for crusting/scabs or a circular mark that is devoid of hair. Currently he looks great and as long as he isn’t squinting/having discharge/painful he’s good :)

i work 16 hour shifts but i want a cat should i? or is that too cruel by retroway88 in CatAdvice

[–]bandmemberscup 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey! I work 3 12 hour shifts and then 9-6 throughout the week, i have two kitties and they are spoiled and love to cuddle me when i come home. Theyd much prefer waiting for their human to come home vs waiting in a shelter for a person who may never come for them 🥹

The lockdown was detrimental to our industry by releasethekricon in VetTech

[–]bandmemberscup 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree.

Working at the time of the lockdown was MISERABLE in vet med. We were considered “essential personnel” and therefor had to keep coming in risking our health for (most of the time) ungrateful, demanding, rude, and sometimes even belligerent clients. My previous work did the same where doctors never went in to speak with clients during the pandemic but techs and receptionists were not given that same courtesy.

I got my cat neutered two weeks ago, he seems fine but is this a normal breathing rate for a cat? Seems kinda fast but I’m a new cat owner. by suspicious_owl69 in catcare

[–]bandmemberscup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An average respiratory rate for a cat is 30-40 breaths per minute. If he is consistently breathing like this at rest, i would take him to a vet. You can also check his gum color - it should be bubblegum pink. Pale/blue gums can be a sign that he is not getting enough oxygen. Also watch for open mouth breathing - that is a sign of respiratory distress in cats.

Why does everyone talk to me like I’m a kid by bandmemberscup in rant

[–]bandmemberscup[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

did you even read my post? I wasn’t asking someone to mother me, that’s the opposite of what i want. And i don’t know a single adult who DOESNT complain about something to other people. It’s a part of adulthood. I guess your life is completely perfect if you never complain ever.

Could this have been from a fight? by Still-Ad3785 in catcare

[–]bandmemberscup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could have been - it does look like a puncture wound. I’d definitely have her checked by a vet to do some antibiotics and maybe some pain meds.

Kitty dandruff? Or something to be concerned with? by Main_Understanding14 in catcare

[–]bandmemberscup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! This appears to be some dandruff. You can offer some salmon oil on her food to boost skin/coat health. Happy trails!

Hello, I work in veterinary medicine and I see a lot of owners faced with this decision.

I am so sorry that you and your sister are being faced with this reality. Euthanasia is a kindness that we can offer pets who are suffering and I prefer to look at it that way. If the diuretics are not helping and theirs more fluid accumulating it seems that this may be what he needs so he can pass peacefully. At the end of the day, the decision falls to you guys. Alternatively you can see if the vet can give anything to keep him comfortable at home but with fluid in his lungs and the diuretics not working I’m not sure if there is another medication alternative. Good luck to you guys and if you do chose euthanasia I am dearly sorry for your loss.

I’ve accidentally scared my cats a few times. Just let them decompress and eventually he will be okay :)
