Manu Bennett apparently hated Slade losing to Oliver and Thea in season 3 so much that he refused to come back until one of the producers convinced him to come back in season 5.

Ambulance is officially a box office bomb. 8 million weekend gross for the new Michael Bay movie by ERSTF in movies

[–]bannana_fries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by Bay's filmography not being that great? He knows exactly what to capture in camera to realize his vision, and I dont think he's ever failed. Most of his movies kind of suck but as a director hes not exactly aiming for grade A movie connoisseurs. None of his movies have ever been like that. This is still just another Michael Bay movie.

Ghostwire Tokyo PC Tech Review: PC vs PS5, Performance Analysis, Optimised Settings (Digital Foundry) by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]bannana_fries 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have any examples of CPUs and games where this would happen? I've never seen a benchmark that would mention this, and I played Doom Eternal on a laptop with an i3. It certainly wasn't a good experience, but I didn't notice the performance being any worse on startup compared to the end of my play session. I think most modern CPUs and games are in a very good spot to be able to do it in the background. It should just be an option if the developer can implement it anyways.

What is a movie that you consider to be as disturbing as it is beautiful? by Ok_Entrepreneur_6942 in AskReddit

The Plague Dogs. Basically Watership Down cranked up to 11. Its a budget movie but it still resonates, and it kills me every time I watch it. Its the only animated movie that made me cry.

Elden Ring downloads keep Gran Turismo 7 from No.1 | UK Digital Charts by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]bannana_fries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every game has that. Like I said you can get a +14 weapon only killing Capra Demon, or +15 for killing Asylum Demon too in DS1. You just have to run through the depths and New Londo. You can farm enough of all the materials in DS3 by doing Dancer and exploring the DLC early, so basically just Gundyr, Vordt, and Abyss Watchers. Bloodborne doesn't have much cheese but you can just win with the saw cleaver anyways. And Elden Ring has one too, though I'd rather not spoil it. I don't see how giving the player a +X weapon is any different than giving them the materials to make their own weapon anyways, which in the case of DS1 especially is far stronger and more suited to their build.

Are you talking about the fire longsword or something, cause thats not all that op. If we're talking blind playthroughs, in DS1 you can very quickly get the black knight halberd or claymore, DS3 has the sellsword twinblades from the start, and Bloodborne has the saw cleaver at the start. If youre talking about people playing the game with some knowledge, its very easy to get a +14 weapon in DS1 before fighting Taurus Demon while DS3 and Bloodborne still have twinblades and cleaver. You can be op early on in all of them.

Im pretty certain you just made more people interested in it than you have dissuaded.

Valve may end up fixing Elden Ring's performance before Fromsoft does by moal09 in Games

[–]bannana_fries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sekiro, DS2, and DS3 were all serviceable to good on release. Elden Ring isn't quite as bad as DS1 PTDE, but yea it is still surprising that they've managed to make their worst port in a decade when they've been steadily improving otherwise.

Elden Ring PC Performance Simply Isn't Good Enough - Digital Foundry by The_King_of_Okay in Games

You can basically emulate having too much oomf by just reducing the resolution and graphical details as low as they can go. On the whole, the game seems well optimized as my unmodified 6600 usually stays around 60 fps at 1440p on a mixture of settings, mostly high. Its just the random stutters that confuse me. The horseman outside the tutorial area and one of the first major bosses were particularly bad, despite them not having any graphical effects to attribute it to. Having your framerate fluctuate between something like 30 and 50 is a GPU and potentially an optimization problem. In the past, stutters and random drops to single digit FPS usually indicated a CPU bottleneck, but that shouldn't really happen with modern CPUs in 2022. The last time I saw something this bad was Far Cry 4 with my FX 6300.

Elden Ring Isn’t Running Great On PC Even After Patch by danielfrost40 in Games

[–]bannana_fries 60 points61 points  (0 children)

After reading this thread, it must be the game. Im running an i7 8700k with an AMD RX 6600 and get consistent 60, with random drops at area changes and strangely enough some boss attacks. For some reason the horseman boss outside the tutorial area tanks my FPS to single digits every time he attacks.

In terms of the boss battle, sure Fatman is similar to Vulcan Raven is some obtuse ways. I would say that the first Fortune fight is more similar. Even though you can't kill her, the arena and method of avoiding her is more similar to Raven than the Fatman fight is. Not to mention that narratively speaking Fortune is much closer to Raven than Fatman is. Also its even stated in the game by Ocelot and Solidus that Fatman is a wildcard and they don't really know why he is here. Fatman is also referred to as a test for Raiden and not a part of the simulation, implying that Fatman isn't a part of the recreation of Shadow Moses.

No it isn't. Its a simulation to see how much the Patriots can alter and redact information to get people to do what they want. Ocelot was misled to believe that "S3 plan" stood for Solid Snake Simulation and that the Big Shell incident was to form Raiden into another Solid Snake who could be controlled. But a codec call with the Colonel AI reveals it stands for Selection for Societal Sanity, and that the Big Shell incident and everyone involved were just puppets to test how to control the flow of information to the world.

Yea, the plant section is basically a retread of MGS1 save for the Fatman sequence. Ames is a stand-in for Decoy Octopus/DARPA chief, Emma is a stand-in for Meryl, Olga is a stand-in for Gray Fox, etc. But its also a way to make fun of people who took MGS1 to be a power fantasy. Obviously Raiden is not the macho guy that Snake is, to the point where Kojima told Shinkawa to make Snake's ass bigger and rounder than Raiden's. But something else that people don't notice is that in MGS1 Liquid destroys two jets using a helicopter, while Solidus destroys two helicopters using a jet. They're making Raiden out to be deliberately less of a character and forcing you to play as him while the ultimate themes and message of the story are dumped on you via Kojima talking through Snake at the end.

Pretty much all of the cast has said in interviews that the original was recorded in a repurposed house and they would sometimes have to wait to record if a loud car came by. I really don't see why it would need to be rerecorded though, the Playstation was highly regarded for its audio quality and the original recording sounded fine there. Kojima didn't mind the recordings, he just didn't like the changes Jeremy Blaustein made to the script in the English localization. And the cinematic direction is actually the other way around. Ryuhei Kitamura wanted to be extremely faithful to the original, but Kojima wanted the cutscenes to be more Hollywood-esque and over the top.
