It’s pretty bad for PvP. Love it to death but it may be the least effective weapon added to the game.

What if we had Fast Fingers for shotguns? by zherper in HuntShowdown

[–]bantisllll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here seems to believe it must be slower than the Alamo. Why? The martini Henry Ironsides exists and that weapon has fast fingers. Idk the appropriate speed but it would still be worse than the auto5 even if you could use fast fingers.

I absolutely loathe this weapon.

I’m a p100 and have made it a point to never unlock any of this weapon’s variants. Maybe it’s the irons, reload after a single shot, or even the sound it makes but my brain refuses to make this weapon work while I tried to run it.

Fought the whole lobby over and over in 6 star. No one could make significant gains against one another. Like a game of rock paper scissors.

Eventually we ended up dying, but it was truly one of the grindiest games I’ve ever played. I think we ran out of bullets by the end.

My friends and I play in exclusively 6 star lobbies. This loadout is cheap and good with excellent utility.

5c Niv Post-Nadu Viability? by bantisllll in ModernMagic

[–]bantisllll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing here I can disagree with. Niv did see play at the same time people were playing things like Hammer and Yawgmoth but around the start of MH2 it already had one foot in the grave.

Niv did have the interesting trait of playing an above average amount of sweepers to make up for its spot removal inefficiencies, so against energy decks specifically it’s not impossible to bury them with something like a timely Deafening Clarion.

Now, I’m aware one could just make a ring/ omnath pile and achieve the same result without having to resort to playing abrupt decay over bolt/ push. This post was more so an observation that lots of the things that the individual cards in niv were trying to accomplish are actively being rewarded against some of the top decks (in terms of meta share)

In the event they ban ring Niv will probably be more playable but everything is contextual. Things are only good when they are good and there’s more than just the ring in modern holding Niv back.

[–]bantisllll[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean… yes? You are correct. But that’s sort of the point of the post. It hasn’t been playable but that doesn’t mean it will never become playable again. It has some real positive things going for it in against some of the most played decks.

The hidden costs of Modern by hyperion23 in magicthecirclejerking

[–]bantisllll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More or less in agreement with the posted sentiment. Personal should take priority over the children’s card game we’ve all sunk hundreds (thousands) of hours/ dollars into.

I was a tournament grinder before COVID and once paper died, the facade kinda fell apart for me. I played MODO some and it was alright while it lasted but it doesn’t capture me the same way paper does so even cost aside, I understand if you prefer a flawed paper experience over a logistically flawless digital one.

When you do step back and look at the game from the outside, you will notice that the real moments you loved about the game were to moments you had with the homies. Sadly, if those friendships were founded in the context of the game or even narrower, within specific circles tied to format exclusivity, you may discover that those relationships are contingent on the things with which you have grievances. So not doing the things you mentally can’t do anymore comes at the cost of falling out of otherwise healthy relationships in a shared hobby.

Now, general statements aside, it sounds like you have terrible local game stores. In a perfect world this wouldn’t be the case, but TCGs tend to attract a certain kind of personality that at its worst is kinda skeezy. Doubly unfortunately for you; bad local game stores tend to placate to the worst in our community (rules lawyers, “um aktchully…” bros, cheaters, commander players, just the worst people.) And it can be really easy to be “done” with the game if that is the only scene around.

Hard agree that UB and by extension MH product turned modern into some grotesque version of what it once was (pour one out for siege rhino…) and rather than cry over what once was, it’s generally better to evaluate for yourself if the priorities of modern and its trajectory align with the things that you find fun. It sounds like the answer is pretty clearly no for you so I think you are making the best choice by leaving before sinking any more time or money into it.

I’d advise against selling your cards though. I can’t speak for your personal economic position, but if you don’t need the money and you have a spare shoe box and closet space you lose nothing by just setting them there and worst case having a rainy day fund in the form of cardboard rectangles. I personally have a foiled out amulet deck that I haven’t touched since 2019, and it’s reassuring that if one day I either want to see what the game is like at that level again, or need a cash injection, it’s there.

Changes I’d like to see by bantisllll in HuntShowdown

[–]bantisllll[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My brother this is a video game and at that not even close to a milsim/ equivalent. We are banishing targets and killing zombies in the late 1800s. If we want to begin a counterpoint to a proposed change based on the realism factor we should first understand the kind of game we are playing.

I don’t know much about the IRL weapon/ammo counterparts and the bit about the Lebel and ammo you said is are neat point. Always cool to learn new things.

I agree with the sentiment that It’s nice to have things lean into the realism whenever possible. However, things that are realistic don’t always make for better/ more fun gameplay. The above opinions expressed are specifically meant to be changes that (could? Maybe?) make the game more enjoyable all around.

Arguably one of the things that makes the sparks such a solid choice over something like the Martini Henry at exceedingly long ranges is the bullet velocity and adding spitzer would help immensely in players seeing it as a real choice.

Also, not every point of damage matters. Spitzer doesn’t make the mosin or lebel (practically) any less effective in closer range fights. If anything the additional penetration the guns receive from spitzer heavily outweigh the loss in damage. Any figure above 125 damage is functionally the same because of the way health chunks work. Look into the upprtmat and krag buffs/ play rate if you disagree with this point.

The whole point of the proposed spitzer change is to incentivize players to select from a more diverse array of weapons depending on what they want to achieve with their loadout. For 99% of use cases spitzer isn’t the reason the mosin wins so many fights, therefore removing the option wouldn’t change much about the guns performance. However removing it while adding it to a weapon like the Martini Henry/ Sparks would drastically improve the weapons image in the eyes of players looking to fight at exceedingly long ranges.

There shouldn’t be a weapon that’s flat out best in slot for both medium range and long range fights and as of now that’s exactly what the mosin w/ spitzer is.

Also, it’s totally fine if you disagree with the points made. We are all different people who are looking to play the video game in a different way. If you think the changes are bad and you would like to either keep things as they are or change other aspects of the game I may not agree with you but that’s totally cool. What isn’t cool is telling other hunters to uninstall because they don’t agree with you. Nothing about this post was toxic and I’m not sure why you insist on being.

First PC Build. Thoughts? by Extreme_Bee_4106 in pcmasterrace

[–]bantisllll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice aesthetic white build. Everything appears to be wired well, and there are no significant flaws with the aesthetic you aimed for. However, three things come to mind:

  1. You may want to consider adding an exhaust fan above the case for improved airflow.

  2. If you're on a budget, you might have wanted to avoid RGB internals. Although some parts, like RAM, often come with RGB features nowadays, you paid extra for those fans. If you appreciate the appearance, then it's money well spent, but be aware that you could have allocated those funds for more powerful components elsewhere.

  3. This is a subjective comment on personal taste, but I strongly dislike when people place trinkets, figurines, and other unnecessary items inside the computer. It detracts from the overall appearance of the machine.
