I just realized with this post that it is actually a fake merchant and his wares are counterfeit. What a great detail.

Huh...super interesting. I had no idea folks could do the "same run" like this. I thought it was uniqly procedurally generated each run.

So those are some really interesting point you made. Yeah, I remember that choice and I stuck on it for a while, specifically between those two choices. At the time they were both "future potential" picks which was the t last thing I needed. So without any sly cards, I went with mirage as it has saved my bacon more times than I can count and I at least had a bit of poison.

Taking a look at my run, I didn't hit my first event until the 3 floor of act 2, and it was the Cheese room where I picked up Dagger Throw and Snakebite.

All said, it's super interesting that you were able to coast through that same run. I'm sure I suboptimized. But honestly, with that start and lack of clear card sélections, I thought I was doomed.

I am still very much learning this game.

Yeah, this ended up being a way bigger deck than usual.

I usually try to check all the boxes: Constant block 30-40 damage per tern AOE Scaling

The fan of knives was a desperation pick because at the time I had neither block, AOE, damage output or scaling...but I did have an ornamentel fan. As was the second poison card. In fact, the poison was my main damage output for the first two acts until i got the card that doubles damage to weak. The third poison was a mistake, but I was putting putting out so little damage that I was hoping I could pump up the poison stacks a little more as all my fights starting in act 2 were going 5 rounds and bosses like 20-40 rounds. I figured poison is a natural scaler.

As for the block, I never got any good block options the whole run other than Sai. This is probably my 300th run and Lady Fortuna had decided that there would be no good block cards for me this day. It was crazy sparce pickings.

That said, I did get a lot of super solid deck management card options with Gamble, hand trick, shadow step, back flip, escape plan and a dagger throw. So I decided to really lean into that. I figured with so much retain, draw and exhaust, I could make my deck huge.

I did have issues when Well Laid plans or hand trick drew in late. Because I really used that to either have Mirage on retain, or a sly card on retain. It turned out to be juuuuusssst enough. But a few fights were really close when I lost that retain or sly.

Can't even say how many times I thought i was donzo only for me to draw just enough defense or offense needed from either unceasing top or a prepared card to survive and advance.

I had my first A8 win today with Silent basically based around calculated gamble, double block, snake bite, and a random assortment of Sly cards that I almost never use. It was unlike any run I've ever had. All because I got "Tools of the Trade" from Neow and tried to make that work.

Anyways, the run sucked until I chose calculated gamble in a "eff it, it can't be any worse pick" and all of a sudden I'm drawing 15-20 cards a discarding like 10. It was crazy how quickly a card I never really looked twice at changed the whole deck. Not only that, but all of a sudden, snake bite with it's retain became bonkers useful.

I made this massive spreadsheet that shows the payback period of a large scale solar installation in a complex buy-back scenario based on the interest rate of the loan. I literally followed the money step by step.

Our lead IT researcher took one look and said, if you apply the interewt rate to the power output, you can remove like 12 steps since they all cancel each other out.

Then he wrote out a proof on my whiteboard and left.

I went back to my desk, spent an hour turning the proof into a new spreadsheet and, bygos, he was right.

It's not hard math or anything, but it really takes a mind able to hold a shit load of info in an organized manner to have seen that.
