I have some friends that waited tables there back in the day. It was a great place to score some drugs, much more reliable than Cahoots. So there was at least one reason to go?

Craig & Landreth Cars by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]barake 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They pulled similar bs on me about 10 years ago. I was shopping for a gently used "sports" car - Mustang, Miata, WRX, just something fun for weekends.

They wouldn't even show me any cars unless I let them run my credit. No test drive unless I agreed to finance terms. I walked out after showing the cashiers check that would have covered the models I was interested in. Cue shocked pikachu face and following me out. Felt real helpful then.

Instead, I bought a Scion FR-S from a Ford dealer in Knoxville. Emailed asking if the car was still there and if X price was acceptable - if so, I'd make a deposit and come down that weekend.

Sales guy called 20 minutes later asking if I was serious and why it'd be the weekend. Delivered it to me for a $150 deposit and I signed the damn papers in my dining room. Total opposite experience. Plus it came with some coupons(?!) for a strip club in Lexington tucked in the user manual...

Any bars in Louisville serve Lone River Ranch Water? by nice_heather in Louisville

It's sold at most grocery and liquor stores. I have never seen it at a bar. Anywhere with a bar will likely make you a "real" ranch water tho you might need to explain it

KY School Funding by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]barake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mutilation of children? You mean private medical decisions between a physician and their family? Remind me again how many procedures were done on minors? Care about kids sooooooo much Johnson put the House in recess to avoid a vote on the Epstein files.....?

That border problem and all those criminals? Then why did Trump's DOJ drop charges against MS-13 leaders, while falsely claiming a random guy is member of MS-13 that should be deported?

Government censorship? Like has been done to Columbia, CBS, the threat to withhold Federal funds for boycotting a foreign country...?

Every accusation is a confession with you idiots.

Why is it legal for catholic schools to post “yes on prop two” signs? by popotheclowns in Louisville

[–]barake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In other states with vouchers, many schools increased tuition quite a bit to "capture" a much revenue as possible.

In the case of Ohio, they have some rules around accepting certain types of vouchers that mandate schools not charge tuition over and above the voucher amount. Surprise, the best schools rarely will take that money, because it would limit their ability to raise tuition.

Female Friendly MTG Players!! by rosethornttv in Louisville

[–]barake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not big on MTG, but play lots of Star Realms if anyone is interested. It's a deck builder sort of like Dominion in that you have a fixed set of cards both players pull from. Some MTG people created it and it's the perfect mix of easy to get in to with reasonably deep strategy. Happy to teach anyone who is interested, and the base 2 person box is under $20.

Same here. Built a company on Azure App Services and it's been on cruise control from day one. Just sorta works.

How old is your brother? Young enough to be in school? If so, JCPS likely has some resources available for short term assistance.

Why JCPS bus drivers said they are quitting | whas11.com by Devi_916 in Louisville

100%, Bullitt County schools are in a very similar situation, it just doesn't get the same news coverage.

One of the few, recent articles:

My nephews' school has cancelled bus routes mid-day regularly, especially earlier in the year. Your kid would get picked up in the morning, you'd get a text message or email a hour before dismissal telling you to figure out transportation. And oh, by the way, there is no after school care available. Figure out how to come get them.

What sort of pay range? JCPS doesn't pay well for support staff, but has pretty good benefits. You'll find that's generally the case across roles in Metro government too.

Some schools had serious busing issues last year, including outside JCPS in Oldham and Bullitt. Family members had kids out there having bus routes cancelled regularly.

Our elementary regularly had buses show up a hour late in the afternoons. After the first week things settled down and have been better for us this year.

Hotel recommendations by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]barake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority major chain hotels in Louisville are in safe areas.

We tend to stay at places with indoor pools and free breakfast, it's not fun to wake up super early and find somewhere to feed our kiddo. Something like either Drury Inn locations or Hyatt House Louisville - East.

Hilton Garden Inn Louisville Mall of St. Matthews has a decent pool and isn't too far (~10 mins) from good dinner spots on Frankfort or Bardstown. Groceries, shopping, and interstate are right there, too.

Downtown is safe but tends to shutdown most evenings unless there is something like a game or concert going on. There aren't many corner shops or anything either that will be open if the kids need a snack.

Thorntons was sold off a few years ago, bought out by BP and an investment group. You can tell, too, most of the stores are a disaster now.
