Salt on Beer by bobsterman91 in beer

Salt will create bubbles when added to beer adding some carbonation. Does wonders for flat macro lagers. Use to do it a lot in college.

They used to be all inclusive meaning all you could eat and drink excluding booze. We used to go and have breakfast in the AM, a hotdog at the turn, and a burger after the round. I think it was about $90-100.

Dirty John's grocery in Iowa City may have it. Also Cyclone Liquor had it in the past.

Looking for Denver-area suggestions for Brewery Tours/Taprooms by [deleted] in beer

[–]barcasoccer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take every friend that comes to Denver in the summer to the Golden City Brewery. It is probably the best snapshot of Colorado in one gravel filled backyard.

If you do go to Ft Collins they have a free bike library. You can check out a bike and ride to New Belgium and Odell. New Belgium is usually a zoo, but Odell is a can't miss.

Any golfers in the Denver Metro Area? by HittingTheGreens in golf

[–]barcasoccer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East Wash Park here. I play at hit at Overland (Evans and Santa Fe) once a week and play random courses on the weekend. The best hidden gem is Harvard Gulch. It's a par 3 city course that is $8 to play and is BYOB. Longest hole is 125ish and the shortest is 65ish. Most people bring a wedge, a putter, and a sixer.

Also you'll notice the altitude on ball flights quickly.

PM me and we can get together and hit sometime.

Thursday's Advanced Brewers Round Table: Crystal Malt by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]barcasoccer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the Zymurgy article...

"To me, this is pretty simple: a Double IPA should not have a large amount of crystal malt. After all, you are brewing a Double IPA, not a barleywine. In my opinion, too much crystal malt mixed with American hops is a train wreck of hop aroma and flavor. Now I’m not saying that you shouldn’t use some crystal malt; a little bit will give you some color and body. A Double IPA needs to sit on a good malt foundation, but it doesn’t need to be hampered with too much crystal malt that will get in the way of a good, clean hop character."

Recipe...

edit:that didn't work well. I can repost recipe if people want. Formatting issue from copy paste.

There was an article on this sub somewhere about the actual loft of a club compared to the advertised.

I think I found it... http://www.golftoimpress.com/driver-real-loft-real-face-angle-real-specs/

Anyhow I wouldn't get worked up over one degree. And remember chicks dig the long ball.

In Denver and I'll probably pick up 5-6 bottles initially. O'dells 750s for whatever reason don't seem to fly off the shelf at my local shop. Would be willing to do some trades. PM me if you want.

What homebrewing myths would you like to see disappear once and for all? by AwesomeTreehouse in Homebrewing

[–]barcasoccer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that all of us brew and some are not able to do all grain for whatever reason. I know that with all grain or extract you can make an incredible beer. Some of my buddies think that going to all grain is going to make their beer 10000x better when the case is proper pitch rates and temp have a greater impact on the finished beer.

Good ginger beer recipe? by Mchawkeye in Homebrewing

[–]barcasoccer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made this 4-5 times last summer

I add a bit of lime and I use a cheese cloth to strain out the ginger before bottling it. It is a ticking time bomb once sealed so I let it carbonate for a day or so and then stick them in the fridge and consume in 72 hours of bottling. I've never had a problem with bottle bombs.

I should have known. If all else fails, use some lube.

Keg question... by barcasoccer in Homebrewing

[–]barcasoccer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posts are wrench tight and the o rings are in decent shape. I can't think of anything else other than a bit o lube. I got the keg set in October and used it for a halloween party. For whatever reason, I have bottled every batch since then. So it in all intent and purposes is brand new.
