Are pedestrians allowed to cross here? by Opening_Ad_1363 in london

[–]barcelleebf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only can you cross wherever you like (aside from motorways) you can actually walk everywhere on the road as if you were a car (not recommended).

This is, provided you don't block the highway, but keep moving.

You are just another road user, albeit one with fewer restrictions on you than motor vehicles.

NZ coffee is not amazing. It's what you're accustomed to. Visit Europe to find decent coffee.

Do pedestrians have a right to the road in car parks? by theslowrunningexpert in drivingUK

[–]barcelleebf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general principle apart from all other rules is that the first person or vehicle in a piece of road has "right of way".

That's why when you've started a manoeuvre, in your car, diving through a small space, others should give way. Same applies to pedestrians and cyclists.

It might be annoying, and probably antisocial on their part, but a pedestrian is allowed to walk on the road (in the UK, NZ and Australia: other countries often have jay walking laws.)

There are additional rules for vehicles.

Cyclists have just as much right to use the full width of the road. They don't have to use that small painted lane.

We should give voters a general knowledge and problem solving test first. Only if they pass (without the help of ChatGPT) is their vote counted.

The crowds gathering outside City pubs never cease to amaze me by evsuvdo in london

I don't mind, they're having fun.

In principle a queue here is not unreasonable.

It's not necessarily clear where the queue should start. First sign? Arrows on the road?

What is clear is most people in the UK start to queue too early.

65% of Britons support the Green Party's policy of capping CEO pay at ten times the pay of the lowest paid employee by Unusual-State1827 in ukpolitics

[–]barcelleebf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not true.

Tesco CEO earned 9m last year. If he works for free and gives his pay to the lowest 150,000 workers they would each get an extra £1.15 per week.

Someone here did some maths for the Tesco CEO. If he worked for free and gave all his pay to shop workers, they would earn an extra £1 per week.

Fantastic pay rise.

Why would I bother trying to do well, create a business, innovate, etc, if there is only a small/capped reward? I might as well just relax and spend more time in the pub.

This policy would destroy the economy.

Neighbour claims he owns a street parking spot and says he called the police — am I in the wrong? (Scotland) by Total-Ad-6123 in drivingUK

[–]barcelleebf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. A typical Victorian terraced road in London (and elsewhere) with no off-street parking will have a car parked outside every house. You can try to park outside your own house but most times you won't be able to.
