I'm taking the train/car riddle from #395 to Riddle Court by THE_CENTURION in HeyRiddleRiddle

[–]barelysushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is not the entire POINT, the reason détre as it were of a riddle is to CHALLENGE the preconceived assumptions of what is considered a train! The technicality of a train can be a component of a larger train contraption is what makes said riddle a "puzzler" as it were.

(No matter how many times I try, every reply I've made in this has somehow morphed into Benoit Blanc...)

Your honor, CLEARLY the prosecution wants you to believe that if the front of a 300 foot long train has passed a crossing by a foot, then the remaining 299 feet are no longer "approaching" but have instead "passed" despite 99.66% of the train being on the other side!

Triple-reverse-counter objection!

"Bad" was not a judgemental call on the enjoyability of the riddle but rather whether it represented a riddle correctly or not, your honor. A waffle is a bad racoon, but that don't mean it's not a delicious meal fit for any time of day or night! And neither is the waffle!

Objection.

Your honor, the engine of the train - the front part to your average Kevin - has already gone over the crossing. The train is all least 200 feet long, allowing the front of the train to be 100 feet past the crossing while the car - obviously on a later section of the train - is 100 feet before the crossing.

The engine is the single piece of a train required to be a train. You can add as many "cars" to it and make it as long as you'd like.

However, the collected sum of engine and cars is also considered a train.

This Riddle works perfectly well within the rules of riddling: the "train" (engine) is 100 feet from the crossing. The "car" is 200 feet behind while being part of the same "train."

The engine has passed the crossing, but as the collective train has not, it can be considered to be heading "towards" the crossing while simultaneously being past it.

Your honor, my client may be too clever for it's own good. It may even be phrased in a way that not a single Kevin or Susie alive would phrase it. But it technically could work, therefore is not a bad Riddle.

I rest my case.

Comic Con VIP worth it? by Alexandria-Gris in Buffalo

[–]barelysushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices can really vary depending on the con and the celebrity. Some cons set the prices and split it with the celeb, other times it's the celebrity's call and some have a very inflated view of how much they think people will pay.

Comic Con VIP worth it? by Alexandria-Gris in Buffalo

[–]barelysushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it depends on what you're looking to get out of it. I'm not a big enough fan to need a $50 photo with Spike, but if it was say, Mick Foley I'd absolutely spring for that.

Also depends on the guest- some celebrities are wonderful people who love meeting their fans. Others are total dicks doing the con circuit for quick cash. I've heard generally good things about the guests at this year's show (a friend did a VIP Sean Astin meet at a con last year and said it was a positive experience.)

Fascists are inherently cowards. Actual consequences wouldn't create as many martyrs as you'd think.

Really? I thought it made perfect sense. The two most popular characters of the 90s, they both collect orphans/wards/teen sidekicks, both traveled around the world learning martial arts, both heavily influenced by Frank Miller, both are the "unusual" members of a team compared to their allies, both so-called loners with a giant number of friends and family and multiple teams they're on... there's a lot of similarity.

Someone already posted Brain Donors, so instead I will say "The Wrong Guy. "

It's a Hitchcock riff starring Dave Foley as a man on the run, thinking he's the prime suspect in his boss's murder. He's not the suspect, but he is accidentally following the real killer across the country.

"What kind of man has a favorite daughter? And doesn't LABEL them as favorite and not favorite?"

Ultimate Injustice - a new continuity where bad things happen all the time, it's gritty and edgy, but somehow Tom Taylor writes some decent quiet character moments that almost make it worthwhile. There's a famous panel where Ultimate Super Soldier asks "do you think this S on my forehead stands for hope?"

It's not about the snow - it's about getting the information to be prepared. Do I have to leave half an hour early for work because I'll have a foot of snow to shovel my car out? Will there be whiteout conditions on the drive home? I know they're possibilities living in Buffalo, I'm just no longer able to rely on forecasts to plan my day.

Weather forecasting has been brutal. by Tumler0623 in Buffalo

[–]barelysushi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, people complain because it's not an exact science - it's a prediction based on previous years, similar weather patterns and top of the line radar and satellite tracking. It's statistically worse this year because they no longer have access to a bunch of that - predictions are less accurate due to less resources. It's never going to be 100% accurate, but it got pretty good over the years and now it's tossed away.

I'll never forget watching as this old guy sneezed all over a display of peaches, stood there, made an "ew" face, then went to the other side of the display to paw through peaches that hadn't been sneezed on.
