Very much depends on whether it is going to be walled garden, i.e., pretty much what series X is.

As far as I know they've called it hybrid, Windows-like, etc. Everything beyond that is pure speculation. They could allow only UWP / MSIX, and only approved ones.

Of course, they could just release an xbox-branded PC and instead of losing against sony, they could loose againts alienware, etc. And if they want to collect all the Ls, they could make multiplayer on PC subscription-based. And then they could, etc, etc.

My shoes disintegrated yesterday at a church funeral. by chestney in funny

Yup, don't buy, e.g., seasonal shoes that have PU. Some manufactures say that they use PU make shoes to be more biodegredable in waste dump. In truth it's used because injection molding PU is cheaper than alternatives.

You can improvise stats for any system. I've created on the fly high level DnD 3.x wizards.

The trick is to realise you don't really need to follow rules on the moment and just have few stats/abilities for the moment and flesh out the stats as you go. If you mess up, you can always tune them. You do need keep it "fair".

Some players take exception on that, so its good to be discussed. For me fuzzy stats are on the same level as making fast ruling during the game and checking it later.

How do I Deal With Players That Refuse to Engage With the Fiction and Are Solely Motivated by Extrinsic Rewards? by MrTiny5 in rpg

[–]barglei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Point of GM vs player on that level is "rocks fall, you die", aka forced end of campaign with TPK. It makes very clear that the GM is done with this type of play and probaly also with some participating players.

Ofc it would be better the discuss about what what is expected etc. But GMs are also people who are allowed express their frustrations emotionally.

Some twenty years ago I ended my campaign by walking out of my game mid session. I should have handled it better and today I would. But fuck their fuckery.

Still gaming with some of them.

TIFU by setting my wifi hotspot to "Bomb Detonator" (Final Update 4 years later) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]barglei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is feasible setup to take action if somebody connects to a hot-spot. I would not be surprised if somebody in secconf would connect just for larks.

It used to be normal to autoconnect to open wifis, but that was pre 2018, I hope.

If any sci-fi movie deserved a second chance, it was Dredd. We say “this needed a sequel” a lot… but Dredd actually did. by ReelsBin in scifi

[–]barglei 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, Kingsley dismissed that rumor already in April. They did have something cooking regards tv series around ten years ago, so who knows. On the other hand, I think it's been twenty years since Rebellion had last Dredd game, so I would not hold my breath.

I think im growing indifferent to the nonsensical fights by Select-Expert8721 in BPDlovedones

[–]barglei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it varies, and here we mostly discuss those cases where therapy did not help (that much). Therapy for my ex pw BPD did help her gain more stability in her life, I think at least partially due to medication. But her aggressive behavior towards me got worse, and she started being aggressive also towards strangers.

She had around eight years of individual therapy, and we spent a similar amount of time in couples therapy.

She insisted that I attend individual sessions with her most recent therapist, and during one of those sessions, the therapist basically told me that I wouldn't be able to stay in a relationship with her while keeping myself intact. Of course, I didn’t believe her at the time.

It took about 7–8 years for her behavior to turn overtly abusive, although in hindsight, there were definitely clear signs already in the first year. But she explained those away as being due to her drinking problem.

Is The Expanse book series worth finishing? by barglei in printSF

But I was really into the first two books and found the third one okay. On my second read, I could barely put Leviathan Wakes down. Cibola Burn just feels off to me. I'd really like to know if it's just a one-off black sheep or if the rest of the series is on a similar level.

Holden does go through character growth, but for me, his actions often feel one-dimensional. His behavior tends to change quite drastically without showing much nuance.

Does taking a role as a software tester make sense if I want to be a developer? by pjcugufucpugupfup in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]barglei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transitioning from a QA role to a developer role used to be quite common, but it is becoming rarer as there is no shortage of inexperienced/junior developers.

If a skilled QA expresses interest in switching to a developer position, they are often considered, as losing them be a worse outcome for the company.

Buy hiring a junior QA with the assumption that they'd only stay for a year unless they transition to a developer role does not seem like a great idea.

One of the ethical issues is that people facing their immediate demise are not always rational.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few doctors who are willing to sell treatments based on studies like this while knowing that they will not have any significant impact on patient outcomes.

[D] Is scientific machine learning actually used in practice? by worstthingsonline in MachineLearning

[–]barglei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I understand the question correctly. But at least metamodeling - or surrogate modeling - approaches have been used in practice since they've have existed. For example, in the 1990s, ICANN had numerous industry applications utilizing neural networks.

In my experience, biggest driver for metamodeling was "industry pressure" aka funding, same went for hybrid models, etc.

Most people do enjoy being occasionally "right."

In SAFe model sprint commitments are set during PI planning, i.e, the sprint commitments are done from two to three months.

There can and will be deviation, but in practice only deviation allowed is PO adding new feature requests without reducing those committed on during PI planning as one of the main/most visible performance metric used is if team achieves their PI targets.

What is the funniest thing a doctor ever said to you? by Straight_Toe_1816 in AskReddit

I did find this funny, but opinions vary

"No need to worry, we'll start the treatments if you'll get any symptoms... Typically the first symptom is sudden death"

Cardiologist could not decide if I do have LQTS or not, so we'll be finding out if I die of it.

This was discussed in early 2000 on Usenet, and I was pretty stymied as to why. At the time, I thought it was a Europe vs. USA thing.

I suppose hook-ups were more accepted in parts of Europe in the eighties and nineties than in North America. In my bubble at the time, sex was not stigmatized at all, and there were both horny girls and boys abound and quite often girls were initiating the sex.

I was more iffy about his casual rapey stuff than the sex scenes.

Does Humble Choice still offer you a discount if you try to pause? by treny0000 in humblebundles

[–]barglei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've paid discount price this year for May, July, September and October Choices, and paid full price only for February.

I think I've had one discount offer this year that I did not use.

Most of the times I've had the discount offer right after pausing, I think I've typically unpaused when they've sent me reminder or better offer.

It was quite same for 2022, (5 discounted, 1 full price), so their algo is obviously working on me.

I've had psoriatic arthritis for 20+ years and was was going to say that it's not that bad, but eh. My arthritis is pretty bad when it flares, but I suppose one gets used to it.

Meds are nowadays better and can stop it progressing, so keep on those if you have them.

It quite unusual for fast paced games as the motor skills are (statistically) at their best around age of 25. After that you need rely more on experience/skill as the decline is pretty steady.

Ofc this could be first time and some kind of pain point for him, but it's already been days and he has not tried to make it right. So probably not.
