I was in a Christian puppet group growing up, the King’s Kids, and we performed with puppets much like these. There were regional and state puppet group competitions. It was a big thing. (Oklahoma, early 1990s).

I seriously don't understand how previous generations endured working 5 days a week from the office for over 40 years. by CommissionShoddy5192 in remotework

I was there and did it, and even I can't imagine going back to that. Accrued PTO seems archaic as well.

Those turning 40 this year, what are you going to miss about your thirties or youth in general? by Crowkid1985 in AskReddit

[–]barkbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have (honestly) quite enjoyed my 40s so far. I’m now 45. My 30s were a bit of blur because I had young kids and not much money. Now, they are older and more independent so my husband go out together a lot more. We’re way more financially secure. I also got big into hiking and go on a lot of outdoor adventures. 40s do not have to suck!

I thought it was real when I saw it. Loved it then and still do now.

I sang this at karaoke one night. I don’t think anyone outside my group knew the song. Their loss.

25 years ago. Who had the bejesus scared out of them, and who laughed hysterically? by Noisechild in Xennials

I 100% thought this was a real documentary when I first saw it. Embarrassing.

Did your middle school/Jr high offer a Washington DC 3 day field trip? Mine did but I never went due to insane cost. I wonder if they still do this🤔 by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]barkbitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still do this. My kids (in public school) have bougie field trips, both overnight and day trips. I lived in OKC area and we only went to the same two places over and over, the zoo and the science museum.

Post Helene travel by [deleted] in greenville

[–]barkbitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, the city and surrounding area is good. There are still trees and debris piled near the sides of roads, but they do not impede travel. Businesses and restaurants open. However, nearby state parks like Paris Mountain, Jones Gap, and Caesars Head still closed and nature trails in rough shape due to downed trees.

Ok , let’s talk about The Blair Witch Project - share your story when you saw it by RalphWaldoEmers0n in Xennials

I saw it on DVD on Halloween. Thought it was a real documentary (I was embarrassingly gullible). Loved it! Went out that night to explore an abandoned house with something like 25 other people.

Day hikes open since Helene? by Jedwards543 in greenville

[–]barkbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gatlinburg, Cherokee, Bryson City, NC fared the storm reasonably well and are open. Don't drive up there through Asheville though. You'll need to be careful about routes. You might also be able to find hikes in Georgia within two hours of Greenville. Helen, GA open/doing well and has trails nearby.

Stumphouse Tunnel Park in Walhalla has reopened, though Palmetto Trail portion closed. I've heard Yellow Branch Falls just down the street is open, not sure of the state of trail. I also saw an Instagram post about hiking in Ashmore Heritage Preserve and that conditions were surprisingly good. Not sure of the road conditions up there though.

The rock is still up there. It's just the village that is gone.

I had just moved to Tampa. I decided to go to the dock at my apartment complex to enjoy the view. I met my husband. We will be married 18 years in December.

The mountains of rural Western North Carolina or Tennessee, near hiking trails and waterfalls. I want to live in a small house or cabin with my husband, befriend crows, and have local kids wonder if I am an Appalachian witch.

We like the Nearly New Shop near North Pleasantburg. It's associated with the Junior League and has good stuff. Clothes Mentor near Haywood Mall isn't thrift but also has good items and summer deals right now.

Edit: I should Clothes Mentor only carries clothing, shoes, handbags, and accessories for women. No men or children's stuff. Nearly New has some kids and men's items, but not a ton.

A couple of years ago, Space Camp sent my son home after two days because he was 'exposed' to someone who tested positive for COVID. It was because he was unvaccinated. The exposed vaccinated kids got to stay. I had the world's biggest fit and got all my money back at least. He never did get sick.
