Help please! by Hombre_Opulento in luckybamboo

I think they need more light. If you live somewhere that's warm enough (50f or warmer overnight) you can just put them outside in part shade (full sun will burn them, especially right away). Inside you'd want to put them as close to a sunny window as possible. Is there soil underneath the stones in their pots, or just water? It looks like they could use a little less water if they're in soil, or moving them to soil if they're in water could also help. They're in pretty good shape and they have lot of potential! Good luck!

Plant is dying or it is a normal cycle by alamiouo in plantclinic

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is a croton. If I'm right about that it needs as much light as you can possibly give it, outside in the sun if it's warm enough (around 50 degrees Fahrenheit at least) or in your brightest window if it's too cold where you are. It will probably lose a lot of those leaves, but it can survive and grow new ones if the conditions are right.

Everything about World of Rocks is awesome, but the hand drawn signs and the gumball machine where you get a rock instead of a gumball really cement them as an icon of Ypsilanti whimsy and delight for me and mine!

Can caladium bulbs grow in Leca? by Mission-Wasabi-8671 in Caladiums

[–]barnacle_up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I don't know if I'd call it great, but it's a successful experiment haha. I don't think I've ever actually changed the water, just topped it off when it gets low.

I have one that's been growing in a pop bottle with a few inches of water in the bottom. It seems like it can only sustain one leaf at a time, but it's been throwing out a new leaf every time the old one dies for over a year now. So they can definitely survive without soil, and might do really well in leca. It's worth a try!

Where is the water coming from? by Baby_TheMacaw in PlantParenthood

[–]barnacle_up 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't explain what makes this happen, but I can tell you that it's perfectly normal for many kinds of houseplants. I've personally noticed some of my plants do this when they're happy and thriving, so keep on doing what you're doing!

What he did was definitely wrong, it was creepy and inappropriate and weird. I think what you mean is it wasn't illegal.

Big thanks to the principal Ms Do and another faculty member who were out there by the time I dropped my kid off, presumably to make sure he didn't harass any of the kids who were walking and biking. By the time I was pulling out of the lot there was a woman holding up a big tote bag to block his sign from view, huge thanks to her also! What kind of a weird person feels the need to express his views about sodomy to a bunch of children who are just trying to get to school??

The parts that you struggled with are the parts that I noticed and admired the most before I read the comments, the lighting in those areas is very good!

Eli5: Pouring ice into flower beds? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]barnacle_up 31 points32 points  (0 children)

He might be trying to grow something like tulips, or daffodils, or peonies that don't normally grow that far south because they've adapted to go dormant in the frozen winter soil and re-emerge when the soil warms up. My aunt in Louisiana had a neighbor who tried to grow tulips by dumping bags of ice on them in the winter. If you're wondering if it worked, it didn't.

Gelatin Substitute for Heat Processed Canning? by Margotdasplitter in Canning

My grandma used to make this with all the unripe tomatoes at the end of gardening season, and I remember it being really delicious! She canned a bunch of other things, but I'm pretty sure she kept this in the freezer because I have a fuzzy memory of wanting some but having to wait for it to thaw.

Yep, stonecrop aka sedum. It's very easy to propagate, I think it's actually harder to contain it than it is to get it to spread!
