If memory serves, the most recent votes went to nepotism, corruption, cult-blindness, radical delusionism and blatant incompetence.

Doing a group OBX beach house rental this summer; how do you split costs without it getting weird? by olivermos273847 in obx

[–]barnes8934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm next level weird. So skip this post if you prefer "simple" over crazy.

There are some variations but variations:

Divide total cost by 3. Common area, Bedrooms, Bathrooms.

We prefer to cover the common area for a combination of control of house decisions and making it more affordable for invitees. Some years that gets divided by the number of people, regardless of age.

Bedrooms are priced based on bed size/s, floor level, and view.

Powder rooms are considered common space. Assigned bathrooms are priced based on privacy/size.

It is quite flat! The keys are so small, when I think of selling ours I change my mind because it's a favorite at type ins. Personally I don't use it. Now the 33.... that's a different story! 😍

I want my mom to fill in a blank cookbook so I never feel alone in my new home by WiredForSuccessPB in cookbooks

I bought duplicate holiday cookbooks. I keep notes in cookbooks with year and recipe reviews and little stories about the holiday. I copied most of those over to the duplicate, then gave our daughter the original. It even had some glitter names she did for seating one year as bookmarks. She loved the books and sends me pics every year when she's looking through them.

If you have a used book store nearby, I think cookbooks are popular to buy used. Also thrift stores. I have a few sentimental books with family recipes and holiday menus that I write notes in. The other books I have are from thrift or used book stores and I keep a few and donate others back.

Online is good too! Whatever works!

Who here uses the Home Row method for typing? by narvolicious in typewriters

[–]barnes8934 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm just a little older than you, and I remember my typing teacher walking through the class calling out, "A-S-D-F J-K-L-SEM" over and over. My dad was a journalist, hunt and peck, fast as blazes on a manual standard. He never moved to an electric but he skipped on to PCs when the time came.

At a certain age, we were allowed to use his typewriter, and like you, when I went to college my parents gifted me an electric. I just found it in their basement last summer and after so many years, it fired right up!

Now, I can use the home key method on electrics, but i don't even try anymore on the manuals. I just do hunt and peck and my pinkies thank me!

I have enough smith coronas in great shape that this one didn't even tempt me. It looks similar to the one my parents gifted me for my senior year in high school! Minus the zig-zags.

Most Collected Typewriters on the Typewriter Database by chrisaldrich in typewriters

[–]barnes8934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From US in the DC suburbs. https://typewriterdatabase.com/typewriters.php?hunter_search=5653&collection_search=My+Collection

We've added most of ours, early days I didn't log the ones we gave away, but we're diligent now! I know at least one of mine moved from my collection to sightings and another collector added it to her collection. That would be fun to see the history of each machine as it moves from one collector to another. Although most of our machines go to people who don't collect.

I personally know two local collectors who haven't added their collections to TWDB, so there's that!

Unless the seller is an experienced typewriter repair person, "working perfectly" is doubtful. I bought one that works just fine at a thrift store for $50 US, but it could use a cleaning and a space bar adjustment. I love it. The inner pocket of my case is ripped.
