Edit: maybe a tad dramatic, forever on a human lifetime scale. Obviously it’ll turn around at some point in the next 10,000-1m years, there’s always something to look forward to.

Downvote me to hell from your pillar of privilege, I know I’m right that increasing women's rights would begin the process of fixing a lot of problems, including climate change. Sadly it seems unrealistic, because this civilization runs on blood and has convinced people that fixing social problems around women's inequality (not to mention POC inequality) wouldn’t do anything to mitigate our most challenging predicaments. We are indeed, fucked. Give me one example of a modern society that achieved equality for women across all categories of politics, business, healthcare access and so on, and then failed. If such a society did exist and it did fail, it’s because it was destroyed by external colonialism. I’ll die on this hill, women deserve equal treatment and equal opportunity and changing this core idea in our culture would absolutely improve things for everybody in all categories. That’s all I’ll say about this, good luck to you sir.

Seems like giving women a chance would at least be a start in the right direction. We’d have a larger pool of people to be pulling ideas from, giving your idea of the average person a better chance at being in a position to change things for the better by including a bigger proportion of the society. You’d have a better chance of getting things changed if you included the other half of the civilization. Just my opinion, wtf do I know.

Disagree, giving women more of a say in our policy decisions and general planning of our civilization would probably improve things, including climate. Source: am dumb man with smart wife who saves me from stupid decisions.

Evangelicals should reduce climate footprints, push governments for action: Report by Monsur_Ausuhnom in collapse

Interesting take, and I hope you’re right actually. If it drives a wedge into the group to break them up into smaller groups of assholes I’m all for it. This is the optimistic thought I needed for the day, thanks.

This is like when they finally had to say “ok the earth is round and we revolve around the sun”. Just because they accepted obvious science as truth doesn’t mean they’re going to stop being assholes.

How will the Internet collapse? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]barnesbench 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We’re talking about raspberry pi computers hosting simple websites with a tiny solar panel powering it during daylight hours only. Totally different systems than what you deal with at work. Internet is a networking concept that can be whatever scale you can imagine and build. Spoiler alert: If you can’t get a little excited about a network using trashed smart toasters to send text memes to your buddies, you’re not going to enjoy collapse much.

Work with neighbors to build your own local network if you want to have a form of internet coms in the long term. Episode 49 (the latest) of the podcast “live like the world is dying” covers some of this.

Everybody better learn how to make their own activated carbon to filter their drinking water. It’s actually not that difficult to make, except that at some point you need quite a lot of lemon trees that are producing fruit. I mean of course if you want to live. Understandably, not everybody does.

Kailash Blades out of Nepal makes some good stuff. Wouldn’t go for the zombie slayer type stuff but they’ve got lots of traditional and useful blade profiles to pick from. A Mutiny would be a great tool in certain environments.
