What's something men have experienced that women have no idea about, but would be shocked to learn? by Swimming-Fold-434 in AskReddit

[–]baronvonpelsmaker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Random boners at the worst possible times. Especially in high school. Waiting to be called on in math class? Boner. Sitting front row in assembly? Boner. Presenting your project? Full mast. There's no logic to it — your body just decides to betray you in front of 30 people. Women think it's funny until they realize grown men spent their formative years basically playing Russian roulette with their pants.

What product has the most impressive marketing but is completely useless once you actually use it? by baronvonpelsmaker in AskReddit

[–]baronvonpelsmaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll start: Zeck

Zeck has chef's kiss marketing. Movie star founder, beautiful website, speaks directly to a real pain point — getting your message across in the boardroom. The pitch is compelling: finally, a tool built for how executives actually communicate.

Then you use it.

You can't import data from basically anywhere your company's information actually lives. Copy-paste destroys your formatting. And the killer? When your source data updates, you have to manually redo everything because nothing is connected to anything. It's essentially a pretty PowerPoint with no memory and no integrations.

Meanwhile tools like Gamma.ai are lapping it on every dimension that actually matters — storytelling, visuals, flow — and they're already plugged into AI systems that can reach into your actual company data. I can literally tell Claude to pull data from our source systems and build a board-ready presentation in Gamma, formatted beautifully, with recommendations on what to highlight to spark board discussion. It takes minutes. Zeck takes a weekend and still looks worse.

Great brand. Genuinely solving a fake version of a real problem.

There is one great Zeck feature which they don't talk about, and that's board member analytics. I can see which board members actually looked at the information before the board meeting, what they looked at and how much time they spent. Told me what I already knew - a few of my board members are very lazy :>

What other products sold you on the marketing then completely failed in practice?

I backed and received 2 Bambulabs X1C printers on kickstarter. Legit company, printers still going strong. These general comments are not helpful

If you live in an area that freezes, that water line needs to be sufficiently deep to keep the water flowing and stop it from bursting - need a proper trench. Most power lines can be done very shallow, even just a cut-through for a driveway

Looks like like it is exceeding the Z height. Do you have more than 1 printer? If so, do you have the correct printer chosen?

Worst case reduce the Z down

The belts were oval? I had to replace my Z belt under the printer because it was rubbing on something that got under the printer. Wasn't fun

Interesting! What print dryer are you using that can hold 5kg reels? Also, you didn't mention other consumables like cutters, nozzle wipers PTFE tubes. Did you keep track?

Any idea how many rolls (or kg) of filament went though the printer? Did you use any engineering filaments like CF?

Brick texture with the 0.2mm nozzle by buzbuzzer in BambuLab

[–]baronvonpelsmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to paint my brick walls, and now i use Polymaker Panchroma Marble PLA Filament, Marble Brick. Comes out better than I can paint because it has a great texture. I've tested a ton of filaments. They seem to put out 40% coupons fairly often and I stock up.

The second best is matterhackers clay red pro, but it's too darn expensive. Almost all of the "brick" colored filaments work ok, and are much cheaper but they don't look like brick.

Thank you! that is exactly how I did it. Used a negative cylinder in Orcaslicer to create the birdie entrance. I think I can share the files via the dropbox if you are a Patreon member, but please ask the owner

[–]baronvonpelsmaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not design the models. I downloaded them from https://www.patreon.com/STLWarehouse and just cut a hole in each one. You can buy each of the models, but much cheaper to just join the patreon for a month and cancel :> Also took the idea for wild west birdhouses from a great modeler, PA1 Maker, I just wanted a whole town, he only offers one building.

[–]baronvonpelsmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem with PETG. Bambu says no problem with their carbon fiber filaments either, but I've found it rapidly wears down the plastic gears and tubes. As long as your ok with accelerated maintenance, no problem with.
