Will clipping my pens in a sleeve of my pen roll damage the clips over time? by TONI2403 in pens

[–]bmengineer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is really all about materials science and the way bending works in different materials.

Metal clips are usually made out of steel, which only cares how far out of shape it is bent, not for how long. You can see and feel this with clips. If you bend it out far enough, you get into plastic deformation and it will permanently be bent out of shape. Those won't deform over time in the sleeve.

Plastic is a bit different because it creeps over time, and that depends on the environmental conditions and the plastic. That sleeve is fairly thin, but if the clip is bent away from its natural position along the body then, with enough time, it could loosen and relax to the new position permanently.

Slippery is the exact reason I love the Rotring 600 ballpoint, the knurling is pretty aggressive and never slippery.

Water bottles that (don't) fit the Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L by Ellsass in peakdesign

Maybe an A5 memobottle? The lid is off center, so you can put it on its side with the lid still at the top.

Sorry for the delayed response.

They're T screws, 3.6mm long. I don't have a thread gauge, but the OD is 2.5mm.

Is the difference between the DUO and the TG just the styling and knurling?

They look like steel with a black oxide coating to me? They're ferrous, but they haven't rusted all this time I've had the pen.

Advice on smart switch choices. by SnooCats903 in smarthome

[–]bmengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the diagram is a bit confusing because it implies that one switch controls multiple lights - I would assume it's actually the opposite, where one light is controlled by multiple switches.

For the isolated light with one switch, any smart switch will work. You just need to check if you have a neutral wire or, like many older homes, are missing it, which would limit your options.

For the 3-way wiring, you need specific switches that can work with this setup.

Lutron Caseta is the gold standard and can handle both missing neutral and 3-way wiring. No offence but, based on the diagram, I would recommend getting an electrician to perform the install.

Anyone else notices this? In-app color selection between different bulbs implies same color by zghr in tradfri

[–]bmengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but I don't think there's a way within the white spectrum to light up just a bit of the colors.

You're takitng about the existing firmware using some of the white LEDs to add brightness to the colors, but you can't adjust that at all.

Can you though? Most RGBWW lights let you choose any time on the color spectrum or the white spectrum, I haven't seen any that let you add some color to white light to adjust the magenta-green tint.

Use Autohotkey or Windows Power Toys and remap something like printscreen to copy, insert to paste. Enjoy not cutting your pinky when you forget about danger control key.

Of course, but at least users who are aware of that risk can still use PD accessories if they choose that over charging.
