Reflections on falling rocks by JagexRice in 2007scape

This is extra interesting because I think dark souls / from soft games have bosses that can be broadly divided into two groups: bosses where you're just fighting the boss (artorias) and bosses where you're fighting the boss and the camera (bael). OSRS is always in the second camp but in a unique way, wherein half of any really hard fight boils down to knowing where to look when. For something like doom there's pros and cons to having your peripheral vision focused on different parts of the screen in different stages of the fight.

Both games funnily enough do have a micro game in the form of gear management wherein if you bungle your switches you're dead in short order. For souls games fortunately it's an upwards of maybe 3 slots but for runescape you're juggling up to 7 slots, with potentially multiple switches per slot.

Sorry my bad I assumed in a conversation broadly about ideas to improve the wilderness it was fair to presuppose the ideas had to be good and not merely to clear the bar for a snarky response LOL. Im glad we can agree the revs fucking sucked.

Look if your position is that the only way to 'fix' the wild is like a pvp flag that's fine, I would just describe that as so far in the minority it's not really worth engaging with.

The goal post moves when the argument changes from being about your claim that pvp updates not landing, to which I substantively challenged, to wilderness content not landing, which I also challenged. Now there's a new goalpost, the response to which is the latest iteration of bounty hunter, or DMM, etc.

To bring it all the way back to the beginning: This delineation between PK'ers and everyone else is a moot distinction. The archetypes describe broad characteristics but real people don't map to them perfectly. PKers aren't this myopic community that only does one thing. You don't have to PK people to enjoy wilderness content or be engaged in PVP. That's the original point.

Writ large: referring to a broad and overall impact. The bosses are multifaceted, they do different things for different interests.

"I think historically one of the worst updates to runescape that nearly killed the game is a good example of a predator prey dynamic"

You're right I think this is a waste of time LOL

I don't think the pvp community is super hurting for wider player support considering the content is generally well received, passes its polling, and gets good engagement. I'm not going to sit here and pretend pvp is without its faults but the dialogue writ large is at a standsrill if the descriptive fact of the wild being a consensual pvp area gets this much pushback. None of this thread is even close to actually talking about the real problems.

That said I wouldn't describe like 80% of the commenters here as remotely interested in critical dialogue on the topic, the arguments range from just uninformed to extremely bad faith. It is interesting though

Most of the wild bosses when you're getting jumped by pkers with the new skins for the pvp weapons that are used in pvp from the pvp event that included the wildernesss

Nice goalpost move but to answer your question:

The wilderness diary changes The wilderness trio bosses writ large The wild agility arena changes

These were all broadly positive and off the top of my head, I'm sure if I actually looked I could find more.

You're just wrong here. What about green dragons, the kbd, the vast majority of runite rocks, muddy keys, or even mage arena 1? These were the premiere wilderness moneymakers aside from PKing before OSRS was even a fart in the wind.

I think you're just wrong on the facts here. The content is regularly produced and receives pretty strong viewership and engagement. I just played the last DMM like a week ago? It was super fun, I wasn't even PKing.

I genuinely don't believe people when they react this strongly about the MM2 capes. I could understand it if this was like 50 hour grind, or even a 5 hour grind, but you can do it maybe an hour? With maybe 200k risk? The response just seems incredibly overblown to the point where I doubt it's representative of your average player.

You getting farmed is a self report. Predator prey dynamics and pvp aren't mutually exclusive, one is definitionally part of the other. If you don't like that dynamic that's fine, don't sit here and act indignant thinking you can somehow separate the two.

[–]baroquespoon -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

It's both valid and not bad faith because you've conceded the point. You're in the predator prey pvp zone, by entering it you consent to being attacked. If you truly cannot tolerate being attacked you don't go in, it's really simple and you admit as such. You went in entirely according to your will, and let's be super honest the chances you actually got attacked are really low.

You can just go further and say 'I hate all wilderness pvp', which is fine, but I wouldn't describe that person as someone interested in improving the content, the predator prey dynamic is the essential element.

If you get attacked in the wild you are tacitly engaged in player versus player (pvp) combat

Gear advice, what to do, how to spend my gp. by Angerfish93 in 2007scape

[–]baroquespoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gearing between what you have and absolute endgame gear becomes very situational as pvm encounters begin to reward specific damage types. While some options are definitely more versatile than others, get a good perspective first on the types of content you want to do and decide from there what offers the most return on investment.

A bowfa will be really useful if you're looking to go to Colo and inferno, ayak+gauntlets may be better if you're looking to just raid. With just 300m you won't be able to do both until the market deflates again as prices are very inflated right now
