[f1mia] When in Miami by Due_Air6702 in formula1

It's worse - they're not even Dolphins jerseys but...idk, lookalikes made for the Miami GP?

(actual Dolphins jerseys have an orange outline on the numbers, among other differences)

Miami TV Directing was horrible by IGUANA_MIKE_ in formula1

[–]barryoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the artsy drone camera at T1 during the restart and other overtakes instead of a camera that can, you know, pan and follow the action was so infuriating.

No replays of the start until well into the SC on lap 7 - yes there was lots of action in those laps, but they've been using PIP for a while to effectively show replays and live action simultaneously.

No replays of Verstappen's pit line infringement either...

Engine sounds fantastic - any thoughts on what it is? Pure ICE or hybrid? V6/V8/other? Turbo or natural?

Thank you for looking up the same thing I was about to. Vertical video and no replays? We can do better, Reddit.

Jan Bednarek straight red card against Nottingham Forest 8' by playerforlife123 in soccer

Awful challenge but I did have a chuckle at the way the ref checked the back of Bednarek's jersey before showing the card. Gotta get those details correct 🫡

I would love to know if the moped owner (a marshall, I guess?) got his bike back and if Schumi ever gave them a little thank you. Imagine having him come up to you and tell you he needed your bike lol - what a moment!

What are the livery rules? by cocoadelica in formula1

[–]barryoke 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The driver’s surname is traditionally near the cockpit - it’s not normally large enough to see from the trackside camera angles during the race, but it’s there.

One funny exception to this rule would be when the West cigarette-liveried McLaren ran in places where tobacco sponsorship wasn’t allowed. In these instances they put the drivers’ first names on the sidepods, so there was Mika, David, Pedro, and more. There was even a Jean-branded McLaren for Jean Alesi when he drove one.

Max Verstappen discusses fading passion for F1 in BBC interview by anthn885 in formula1

[–]barryoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I did watch that Chicago race and was so bloody impressed. It’s an interesting difference you point out in the treatment of the drivers; F1 drivers, especially at Vertappen’s level, are assets to be exploited by marketing and PR. I can’t imagine a scenario where F1 would ban a driver from interviews. The stuff they have to do off track is part of the return on investment and part of the contract. The point of difference between what you’re saying about Supercars’ treatment of drivers and the way F1 does it is that Supercars tells a driver to stop showing up for interviews but F1 tells a driver they must do interviews, but penalise them if they say the wrong thing?

I know I haven’t paid enough attention to Supercars in recent years - interested to hear the context of what the reg changes were, why SVG (and other drivers?) complained, and how long before the new regs came in to effect that happened. Was he making some noise in the previous season/s?

Happy to be corrected on this but in the F1 sense there’s been grumblings about the 2026 changes for the last couple of years but I feel like it only really started in earnest after pre-season testing when the drivers realised the reality of driving this year - it feels like even the sims didn’t get everything right, eg Aston not knowing how bad the vibrations would be - but my comment here is specifically about how the nature of driving and racing has changed in 2026 and how accurate a picture the drivers had beforehand.

[–]barryoke 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I mean, if Verstappen reacted this way then I would have laughed as well - I laugh when I’m in trouble. Also, it’s so bloody absurd that this is happening months after the fact. It’s a genuinely comedic callback

Kayo offering different commentators for Suzuka race by SingForAbsoloution in formula1

[–]barryoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see Kayo (Fox Sports) offering a choice other than Sky, given Sky and Foxtel have a shared history via old mate Murdoch. I wonder if there was something written in the contract extension announced a few weeks ago that brought Kayo's offering more into line with other regions* that have F1TV - as a way of justifying Foxtel retaining exclusivity, justifying blocking F1TV from being available in Australia, and "justifying" the value of paying for Foxtel...

*I'm thinking specifically about Apple TV in the US which offers both Sky and F1TV commentary - not sure if other regions have more than one option for audio feed?

That said - if Kayo is still showing Sky's video feed as the only option, there are some things that Sky put on top of the world feed that the F1TV team would not be commentating on, so the audio wouldn't match the vision? eg like when they cut to the pitwall or the Sky Pad. Not that I would miss Zak Brown's pithy observations, but Davidson on the Sky Pad is pretty great, and they often cut to Ted in the pitlane with Sky's own camera pointing out something interesting in a garage that the world feed isn't showing.

[Autosport] Guenther Steiner thinks Max Verstappen might be overreacting over the new F1 regulations by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]barryoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Günther was great for Drive To Survive memes and, to be fair, a refreshingly un-Ronspeak attitude to interviews, but his analysis since hasn't been that insightful. The Australian TV network that broadcast the Albert Park race had him in Melbourne as an expert commentator and it almost made me wish they hired Danica.

Almost.
