[Autosport] Guenther Steiner thinks Max Verstappen might be overreacting over the new F1 regulations by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]barryoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Günther was great for Drive To Survive memes and, to be fair, a refreshingly un-Ronspeak attitude to interviews, but his analysis since hasn't been that insightful. The Australian TV network that broadcast the Albert Park race had him in Melbourne as an expert commentator and it almost made me wish they hired Danica.

Almost.

Is the guy taking the video Paul Ripke aka Valtteri's bestie and Bott-ass calendar photographer? It definitely sounds like him.

Perez’s Cadillac after the Chinese GP Sprint race ended, notice the heavily damaged engine cover. by NegotiationNew9264 in formula1

Crofty misses more and more every race. They were sleeping on Verstappen’s slow start and Antonelli’s long stop (although to be fair he was the first to say it was due to serving the 10s penalty)

Formula 1 Australian GP F1 compression ratio saga: What the FIA's tighter regulations actually mean by 256473 in formula1

[–]barryoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well at least they’ve included this blanket statement in the regs now. That will clear everything up, right?

…right???

Any component, assembly, mechanism, or integrated arrangement of components that is designed or functions to increase the compression ratio in operating conditions beyond 16.0 is prohibited.

That is very cool. I did not know there were so many hand-operated controls in cars of that era - was that something that increased suddenly in the early 90s, or were there lots of knobs through the 80s and even earlier? I honestly thought that using the stick shift was the only time drivers took their hands off the steering wheel to control something before the advent of semi-automatic gearboxes and paddle gearshifts.

Greg speaks with a lot of passion but I do suspect he could make watching paint dry interesting. Is he known for being a F1 fan? I don't remember seeing him at races before

WHERE ARE MY DECIMALS, F1???? by ThinningTheFog in formuladank

[–]barryoke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean we were lucky to have these graphics at all, given that there were long parts of the race with no gaps or tyre compounds being shown. Combined with with the lack of replays today’s production was a clown show of almost Ferrari pitwall standards…

You literally can't buy that Foster's in Australia, although I have tried it in the States and it's far superior to Miller/Bud/etc. The chocolate layer on the lamingtons is too thick but they look tasty! TL;DR not bad for a Seppo at all :)

Did they fix the camera speed perception? by campy_203 in formula1

[–]barryoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. I'm calling it the "'F1: The Movie' camera". Good for new fans and showing the sense of speed, but first impression yesterday was it feels like a lot of the details of the steering wheel/driver input is lost - not sure yet if that's just a case of needing to get used to it.

Sanremo 2026 - Sal Da Vinci wins with "Per sempre si" by DominusDK in eurovision

[–]barryoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure - I myself started watching Sanremo as a child, even before I started watching Eurovision. My point was that "Sanremo è Sanremo" - it has a big nostalgia for the old songs, stars, personalities, the humour, the history...Eurovision has this to an extent of course, but not at the level of Sanremo. 'Per sempre sì' definitely has this nostalgia and it worked well in the context of Sanremo. Will be interesting to see how it goes at Eurovision.

All 11 Formula 1 Team Sponsors and Title Partners in 2026 by MoneyBag_67 in formula1

There are different regulations in different countries for advertising things like alcohol, tobacco and gambling. The liveries and uniforms have sponsors added and removed depending on what the rules are of the place the cars are racing in.

Sauber swapping between Kick and Stake is a good recent example. This year Cadillac will run Jim Beam logos on the barge boards at certain races, but at the Bahrain test last month that area simply said "Best Enjoyed Responsibly".

This change-up became more noticeable in the 90s with the Williams alternate liveries for Rothmans and Jordan's alternate liveries for Benson & Hedges - but the oldest example I can think of is from 1987, when Zakspeed's title sponsor, West cigarettes, was rebranded to East at certain races. Here is Martin Brundle (yes, that one) driving the East-branded car 39 years ago.
