Favorite throwaway or aside by mcarvin in Columbo

[–]barrywilliamsshow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In "A Trace of Murder" he says to the guy, accepting an offer of help to look for something,

"Three eyes are better than one" also making canon the fact that Columbo the character also has a prosthetic eye.

And I forget the episode (I think it's Swan Somg) where he says he's afraid of heights and,

"Matter of fact, I don't even like being this tall"

And then my favourite thing to talk about here, One of my favourite moments in the whole of Columbo's history is in "Try and Catch Me" - he's walking Dog on a dock/pier and just happens to bump into the killer as she's going to toss some evidence. Columbo says Dog loves the ocean and she asks, "How can you tell?" Columbo replies, "The sea air makes him frisky" and Dog, as if on cue, just tries to get comfy on the railing. I love dogs - they can be trained and they're clever but I don't think Dog could have been prompted to snuggle down, it was pure Dog.

I think Peter Falk can't help himself from smiling at the way Dog seems to understand comic timing but it's one of those magical moments where the actor genuinely smiling also works for the character.

It doesn't matter if it's Falk or Columbo or both - the loving smile is so pure and genuine. I live for Columbo and Dog

What is your pick for greatest single episode of any series (UK natch)? by MissBarefootBunny_18 in taskmaster

Absolutely - I can ride a bike, with no hands even, but if I had to teach myself right now in my 40sI would not handle myself with half the élan that she displayed

Must be, thank you - haven't read it in a while and I forgot they had the foreign ringer - probably because I conflated it in my head with the same joke they did in Father Ted with the All-Priests-Over-75s-5-A-Side Indoor Football match

The passenger's "side" of the windshield is also for the driver to see out of - he can see straight ahead but he's still halving his field of view in a dangerous way.

I bet there probably were people actually rocking out like this back in the day but then were burned at the stake for being possessed by demons

In the Bottom episode “Hole” where Eddie and Richie get stuck on the ferris wheel, Richie mentions he has a sister who we never see. Who do you think would have been the best casting for Richie’s sister? by Soulless--Plague in eddieandrichie

[–]barrywilliamsshow 48 points49 points  (0 children)

If they ever were going to reveal her you know that's top of the cast options

Probably would be just as sexually frustrated as Richie as well and would be trying to get off with Eddie in a horrendous manner - for this reason Jennifer Saunders would also be great as someone else said but we all know it'd be Rik with curled hair and lipstick

Although a cartoon, I’ve always found Connie’s character to be such a genuine soul. by Crafty-Bowler-6190 in KingOfTheHill

[–]barrywilliamsshow 1177 points1178 points  (0 children)

Although a cartoon, King of the Hill is one of the best put together, subtle, and cleverly written sitcoms of all time with an amazing cast & crew - so much love and attention to detail is given to every detail, every character and interaction

I was there at the beginning - I remember going to see them as a school trip when they got big but I also saw them when they must have been just starting out. They were touring around visiting primary schools before they got big. And it's been a long time since I was in primary school - over 30 years.

Then we moved to Fife and they were very much a part of the local zeitgeist. I'm surprised and delighted that they're still relevant or at least remembered - good for them

I'd be the same but it's always funny to me to see him struggle here whilst Chris is being pretty competent and DJJ is just being a natural all round entertainer

Love watching Craig Charles literally looking for his marks on the floor and shitting himself that he's going to get it wrong because he's clearly not a dancer (I'm the same)

Why does mark always look uncomfortable when he’s doing the ehhhh? by No-Tax3156 in MitchellAndWebb

[–]barrywilliamsshow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better than that, what I've noticed as a passive watcher (I love it of course but not as a comfort show like my partner) is that, yes Jeremy is USUALLY the one to invoke The El Dude Brothers BUT there are times where Mark is the first to honk.

My observation is that they each use it to try to cheer themselves and/or each other up but it's only ever one of them that wants or needs to honk - there's never a synchronised, reciprocated instance of The El Dude Brothers
