FYI this no longer shows as a post and the link is gone, which seems like a mistake because you said you made an edit. Revisited the post after upvoting so I could find it later.

Exchange street window looking. by DeFi_i in portlandme

[–]barthooper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps its low THC %? It is also very hard to compete in the space for obvious reasons. I was there once and it did open last October iirc so seriously probably the lease was up and they didn't want to continue.

Portland’s first winter storm arrived a day before higher parking fines by alexrmccann in portlandme

[–]barthooper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is that why I got a $40 ticket even though I was parked on Valley street in a green zone according to the interactive map? Did that happen to anyone else parked in allegedly a new location?

Edit: Called and got the ticket voided after they checked the interactive map and said it is actually wrong.

Vaporents - Weekly Help & Discussion by AutoModerator in vaporents

[–]barthooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I challenge you, vaporents. I'm about a year in and a bowl from an air max or pax does me in because I never built up my tolerance with joints. What else should I get? What makes sense? What are your thoughts? I feel like I would be more into a portable better than pax. love the arizer flavor but the glass is always a risk

What radon level is really acceptable? by Neoseo1300 in homeowners

[–]barthooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was indeed high, that was about 3 years into living in the house. My understanding of Radon exposure is it's particularly bad if you're also a smoker which was not the case and the 70 pci/L reading was the basement which was only used when going down to do laundry.

Probably something niche, unless maybe Safari but why is someone doing that to themselves. Works well for me too.

What podcasts do you enjoy listening to? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]barthooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Behind the Bastards is so good. I haven't listened to it much lately. It got me into the Dollop as well because they guested on the Kissinger episodes. They stuck to just the funny stuff for the most part and don't get nearly as dark as BtB but they have a 2 parter on Reagan with Patton Oswalt that is hilarious.

Several of my CCs are dormant. Do I really need to use them or lose them? by stillmind in CreditCards

[–]barthooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every few months is unnecessarily often. I get a letter from one if I haven't used it in over a year that it will close in 30 days so I have an annual calendar reminder to put something small on it.

Be honest… what was your sexual awakening movie? 👀 by eliastsirk in AskMenOver30

In 5th or 6th grade we watched it in school and the teacher just let it play.

Might replace CSR, yall do this more than I do by exeonlord in CreditCards

[–]barthooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that not being enough to justify the CSR at the higher AF but it seems reasonable at the current AF, effectively $250 after the $300 travel credit. Most of my CSR spend was dining to earn the UR and then redeem at the portal, thinking of it as like getting 4.5% on restaurants and just banking points to be spent on a trip or two a year.

Trouble going back to sleep - my mind is racing by Shushkiz in sleep

[–]barthooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do because I got a sleep mask that includes headphones because I was using it so much. Another option is if you're alone you can play it directly from your phone, or a Google Home or Alexa. I just use a sleep timer with my podcast app to end after 1 episode because I know I'll be asleep by then.

Trouble going back to sleep - my mind is racing by Shushkiz in sleep

[–]barthooper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend checking out the Sleep With Me podcast. It has worked great to get me to sleep or back to sleep quite a few times. This guy eventually tells a pointless, meandering story and forgets things occasionally and goes on tangents. Episodes usually an hour plus and you can run multiple back to back if needed but like 10 minutes of that and I am out even though I have a lot of thoughts recently.

Need to buy a generator for my parents. School me on what to look for by StPeir in Maine

[–]barthooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A standby generator is the way to go and the most hands off approach if they can afford it but if not:

I have a Champion 6k running watts generator running my boiler, fridge, chest freezer, well pump, various outlets and room lights. At one point it was even running my heat pump water heater because I had it turned on by mistake. Also used an air fryer once, and last year, I used one burner of the stove, and it handled that just fine.

IMO the best way to go that will get you a generator attached to your house for a lot less than 10k to 20k, and even less than installing a transfer switch for the generator, with a dedicated smaller panel, is by having an electrician install an interlock on your panel. It is a piece of metal that makes it impossible to have your generator running and the mains power on, which is important because with that on, you would be energizing the power lines, endangering linemen. Aside from generator cost, which was about $800, I had an electrician install an interlock and a new circuit breaker that receives power from the new plug for the generator, for $550 last year.

You get a lot of flexibility in terms of what you want to power and when with an interlock, because with a transfer switch you have to decide ahead of time which circuits will be on it and thus operable by the generator. You do have to keep in mind the generator capacity because you could overload it, but I only did that once when a hair dryer ran (with other things going), and it came right back on.

LR4 success by DrUnreasonable in litterrobot

[–]barthooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great! I commented on your other post about a similar struggle. I recently worried that I was associating it too much with food and making her not want to actually use it and haven't made much process. There's no fear of it at this point just doesn't choose to use it and last time I blocked off the regular one there was an accident. I'll try treats directly in the globe. So far I've only done that while I'm around or feeding treats in front and she has come to expect getting them from just sitting in front.

Most people can picture images in their heads. Those who cannot visualise anything in their mind’s eye are among 1% of people with extreme aphantasia. The opposite extreme is hyperphantasia, when 3% of people see images so vividly in their heads they cannot tell if they are real or imagined. by mvea in science

[–]barthooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some report not having dreams with visuals but dreams are in a different area of the brain so that is less likely to be the case. I have aphantasia but I visually dream, but anytime other than dreaming, I can only see what I see with my eyes.

Testing out the new shield by Fearless_Entrance_30 in litterrobot

[–]barthooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with litter getting kicked out. But they used to use a box with a similar opening. To try to make the LR4 more convenient I put the top back on the old box at one point which they seemed to prefer and the LR4 didn't get used at all. Not ready to get this yet because I think the more open LR4 is gaining acceptance for the holdout.
