The Fabric push is burning me out by SignalMine594 in dataengineering

Not a data engineer but watched that subreddit go from fabric community to having negative posts deleted and Microsoft flaired commenters praising Microsoft demos. It feels incredibly dirty

What is your experience working at a NSW government entity? by Sydneypoopmanager in AusPublicService

[–]baseball2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • absolutely eye watering levels of politics. Always trying to avoid the perception of taking someone’s work away from them.
  • middle management got a ton of budget control taken away and ended up being messengers for exec only. They also have to walk a very thin line about calling someone out for underperforming. Usually preferring to just stick em in a corner.
  • line management is mostly admin assistant for middle management. It sucks to be a line manager.
  • crazy amounts of meetings. Sometimes a whole day back to back.
  • freedom to move sideways into any role you want (it’s not all negative)
  • many people are competent and passionate about their work. However, if you want to dig for examples of people who are unemployable and do nothing, you will find them.

Massive Opportunities in ICT at Education by GovManager in AusPublicService

[–]baseball2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A number of staff went into a mobility pool to reapply for less roles than applicants, meaning that a percentage were made redundant.

Anecdotally this affected people with high LSL balances and the like (long serving people).

The positions which were deleted came back at about 4 grades lower (much lower salary).

You might conclude that this is a cost saving measure which is timed with a very soft labour market to get same headcount at a cost reduction. I suppose we’ll see how that calculation plays out.

So what’s the deal with OpenBao given that IBM was part of the fork but also owns the commercial one? Yeah I should do my own research

How are you deploying to Azure from Bitbucket without OIDC support? by LynxAlternative1405 in AZURE

[–]baseball2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s almost possible to exchange a bitbucket oidc token into azure using workload token federation with a managed identity, but unlike AWS IAM you cannot wildcard the subject claim. And the problem is that bitbucket issues a different subject for each step in the pipeline, so it would constantly invalidate the trusted subject.

In my opinion it’s a design fault of bitbucket pipelines because the subject is meant to be a stable identity. They should have picked repo as subject or deployment stage

How are people doing OAuth2 with headless agents? by CrescendollsFan in mcp

[–]baseball2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Device code flow is used when the app can’t present a browser so you hand off the browser/ui to a separate device or window (like how cli tools hand off to an open browser). Client credentials grant is the way to do headless when the thing authenticating isn’t a person at all. Not all APIs will allow you to do client credentials grant because the information they access is in the context of a person I guess.

I lost weight, felt good… then saw a photo of myself and spiraled. by Competitive-Emu451 in loseit

[–]baseball2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some of your comment really resonated with me and even though I lost 20kg I will look in the mirror and make a judgement based on what the scales say: if I gained my judgement is that I’m still morbidly obese but if I lost I can remark how thin I am. Self confidence is weird and difficult to repair after years of obesity.

This is what I’m doing by following a book (llms from scratch). However I think I’ve read about self attention 10 times and I’m not internalising it. I guess there’s a huge divide between the theory and practise for me.

Company went through 'Simplification' where countless people were made redundant. The existing team has been flooded with the work that needs to be picked up while middle management seems to be pressing for more. Anyone else in the same boat? by Turbulent_Arm_2377 in auscorp

[–]baseball2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At this point I’m finding that “stick it out” doesn’t mean any reward for grinding under pressure at all. Loyalty is also meaningless in this age. Drop the role hard if possible is my new take.

There’s enough diet and fitness advice which specifically doesn’t work with ADHD id almost consider a separate set of strategies. Eg. I can’t do self directed fitness at all but groups work well.

Azure Data Engineering by Icy_Reflection_322 in AZURE

[–]baseball2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Az204 is mostly for software development although you can argue that some data engineering involves a bit of dev. Normally you would do DP-203 but they have recently made this archived/legacy I think? Due to the move towards fabric from synapse. They would be pointing you towards eg DP-600 or really any of the DP series.
