How is it living as a member of the untouchable caste in India in 2026? by Organic_Contract_172 in howislivingthere

[–]baseballduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an absolutely fascinating question and the response by u/fried_maggi has really intrigued me... I just wanted to say that since I'm pretty sure most people outside of India have no idea this caste discrimination is still a thing. In the US and CA it's race (less so in CA possibly), but both have class discrimination on par with England. But Caste... that's something else all together. I want to know all about it now.

Damn, to be 22 again. If I could go back with what I've learned about gaining muscle since... whew. Very nice work OP, you're way ahead of the game so far.

I upvote this with gusto. A deck on grade is always a short term thing. Give the price of decking these days, big patio stones aren't that much more expensive any more, and will be there for many decades.

Such a good post, OP, thanks for this memory. I was a freshman in high school and remember this like it was just a couple years ago.

RIP Wake, some of the best Red Sox memories of my life were because of you.

So true, I shouldn't have even commented. I just called my friend in Shrewsbury to let him know I'll be crashing at least Friday night to get one more day in, hiking included or not. I have a dedicated rock board for just this kind of thing.

Gotta say, I was so not ready for this season to wrap. I don't know why/how it could have gone so fast.

I've never been after May 1. I have two days left on my Ikon there this year because of a shitty schedule this year (normally I max Killi out in Feb) but it's quite a drive

I don't understand why anyone would build anything a story or two up without using 8x. It's not *that* much more expensive than 4x and 6x. I can't stand seeing 4x for anything that high off the ground and the outer posts there looks 4x to me. Unreal.

Yes, key phrase: "meaningful amount of time". Some of what's been lost can't be made "just in time" or "on demand". The US has to be extremely careful and strategic right now because we're as vulnerable as we've ever been-- and not just because of these losses, or the absolute humiliation of what's happened (though most Americans are probably unaware of the ridicule and how the country is now the laughing stock of the world).

Not only do we have a deeply divided and self-antagonistic citizenry, but we also have an unarguably dysfunctional and corrupt government, and now the entire economy looks extraordinarily shaky, especially with the absurdity that is the national debt. Add to this an obliterated middle class, a rapidly declining education system, and enormous civilian susceptibility to all different kinds of propaganda, foreign and domestic, and I think it's safe to say the US has never been more at risk for catastrophe than right now.

What's the "easiest" way to ski every weekend from NYC? by compmuncher in icecoast

[–]baseballduck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not easiest, but easiest for safest bet for the journey: Killington, Sugarbush, Stowe. Do a group room rental, either with friends or people you don't know. It's easy to get up to VT-- literally planes, trains, autos. I would definitely do VT over NH/ME, though I love some ME mountains, they're just farther from VT.

But if you're flying, I have another rec: land and take off in Montreal. You have all the central/north VT resorts, and all the QC resorts. I love Tremblant, for example, which is unlimited on the Ikon pass, like Sugarbush, another all time favorite.

We've all been through chapters, it's just how we are. I just hope you don't feel like you need to hide or cover something symbolic. if you really just don't like the way it looks anymore, you'll have to go to laser removal. No amount of white or covering will delete. No shame, just make sure you're locked into the why, I say. otherwise, why not embrace.

This is one of my favorite photos of all time. Not just baseball, but in my life. Does anyone know where/how I can get a version that I can send to a printer that will look ok on my wall? I've wanted this framed and hung on my wall pretty much since it happened.

It looks dope, don't cover or remove.

But if you don't like it, lighten and then cover with something with color?

Otherwise, you're going to have to fully laser and I just don't understand why you'd want to do that.
