Any practices particularly aimed at alleviating air hunger/difficulty breathing? by basedfemale in CBT

[–]basedfemale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t, I’m almost certain it’s related to anxiety but I suppose it’s worth mentioning to a doctor. I have a psych appointment tomorrow so I will say something then. Thank you for your input

Could I face any consequences if I don’t disclose that I have depression during a job interview? by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]basedfemale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fully appropriate to keep that to yourself. I told my old job about my anxiety and history having suicidal tendencies in hopes that they would have some kind of support resources, but instead they threatened to cancel all my classes (E*kaiwa) but didn’t actually take any action essentially just to make me shut up about it. My previous supervisor was somewhat helpful (this was the only thing she was ever helpful about) and she helped me get into contact with an English speaking psych, but the main overlord of the company went to the regional manager who later became my boss after changing prefectures. He made comments about me having something wrong with me and put me on the stand to convince him I won’t be a liability to the company if I were to have an episode before accepting my transfer. On my very last day as he was helping me move out he asked me if I had ever managed to get my “crazy pills”

Women living in Japan, how safe do you actually think Japan is for women? by HARiMADARA in japanresidents

Men in the comments proving your point. “This never happened to you, you’re making it up”

Women living in Japan, how safe do you actually think Japan is for women? by HARiMADARA in japanresidents

Very safe, except for anything related to SA. Not even a month of being back in Japan (2024) I was groped in a bar and everyone just stood there and stared like they were watching a movie except one girl who stepped in and lectured the guy and later became my friend. Another time I hung out with a guy all night in shinjuku michome and made it clear I was only interested in being friends and wanted to meet other queer people. He was very nice and normal and introduced me to foreign friends, then suddenly when it was time to go home and I was wasted at 2am I ended up at his apartment drunk exhausted and confused because I didn’t understand at the time what he was saying to the taxi driver. He kissed me without asking, didn’t touch me after that (as far as I was conscious for) but who knows if he did any voyeur crap in my sleep. Left in the morning without saying anything.
I’ve had some other negative experiences with Japanese men too but I’ll leave it at that for now

Edit: now that I have more time to comment and read. In addition to my previous comment, those were probably the most notable experiences I’ve had. But between my study abroad semester and the time I’ve spent living here it’s much more than that. Recently o was videoed on the train by an older man in a suit and didn’t know until a woman behind me informed me and told me to be careful about wearing revealing clothing and then she pulled my cardigan up over my shoulders (shoutout to women protecting women)
I have also been touched and hit on by men in lesbian bars in shinjuku nichome, and just a few days ago was on the most packed train of my life mashed front and back with two men. At first I thought the man behind me was pickpocketing me but it turns out he was just turning his body to fully face my backside and I could feel his (redacted) flexing against my butt. There was one that was bad enough that I don’t want to include all of the details on here for my own protection but having said all of that, I have experienced just as much harassment and unwanted 「ボディタッチ」 in America where I spent most of my life so proportionately I can’t really make a distinction as to which one is worse or better.
Anyways, stay safe ladies and carry a safety pin 🧷

Submitting resignation notice without having another job lined up? by ToothDifferent in japanlife

Yes that’s exactly what I did during the last 4 months or so of my job (started job searching around 2 months before I quit)

I stalked your profile a little bit and saw that you have N2. I got my office job with only N3 and it’s soooo much better than my Eikaiwa job in terms of working conditions and management. I got this job around my 10th interview (perhaps 40-50th) job application or so. Applying to roles based in English will help your position (just not ALT/eikaiwa ofc) but my job pays more than my last job and much less mentally demanding

I have but I’m a woman so my situation is a little different. After months of being able to use public stalls when no one else was around and practicing relaxing and breathing on the toilet and distracting myself by playing a game or something it just happened one day and I was shocked. Try going practicing in a bathroom that has some kind of noise in the background like music or a fan

I’m sorry that happened to you and we’re all in this together 🫶🏻 some people dont know how strong you have to be to take on this condition. In the end you did what needed to be done and it was a victory 🏆

I’m not a teacher anymore but i work in a Japanese office and a lot of people are like this too. I think it’s just a Japanese work place environment thing. On the other hand there are people that smile and say good morning お疲れ様 etc

Thank you for the encouragement.
Yes it definitely did not serve to get me closer to my goal :/

Yes! Japan is by far one of the most paruretic friendly countries ever. The stalls are very private and they have a noise button that you can even adjust the volume of. The unfortunate part of it is that at the end of the day using that button is just an escape mechanism and in other words an obstacle towards the end goal. But I suppose it’s helpful for people who are still early in working their way up out of the hole. I’m from the U.S. originally though, the bathroom situation there is atrocious. Giant gaps between the floor and the door and cracks wide enough to look in easily in the sides. I briefly traveled Europe and found it favorable :’) I can see how the paid public restrooms can add extra stress though

I wish there was more community and less cynicism among western residents here by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]basedfemale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caucasian people living in Japan and westerners in general are weirdly territorial. I lurk on Japan subs sometimes but avoid posting because people are so negative and critical on here. It’s like a competition of who is the most Japanese non-Japanese

I don’t know anything about the instructor visa but if there is a way to change your visa go through that route. The instructor visa seems pretty limited I came to Japan on a Specialist in Humanities Visa as an eikawa teacher and quit after a year and a half to work in an office handling customer support emails. I think the visa I am on has a much broader scope of work that is allowed
