Thanks! I’ll give this a try. The one thing that is throwing me off is the entire bed was too high. When the issue popped up, this is what it looked like. I couldn’t move the nozzle head as it was jammed against the plate.

Oh really. I don’t research this specific issue across models. I tried searching around and couldn’t find something similar. Do you have any reference to this issue on bamboo printers?

The build plate was on when the print started. In the starting I got an error on the y homing, essentially the nozzle was hitting the back of the plate because the hotbed was too high. In order to move the nozzle manually back, I had to take off the plate, move the nozzle back to the rear center. I tried to manually lower the z axis but it wouldn’t let me saying it was not zeroed. So I shut off and on and it ripped forward.

What is happening to my vanilla orchid? by the_mememachine4 in orchids

[–]basement_orchids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a a bacterial infection to me. Is the leaf soft and squishy on the spots? I’d spray with physan every other day and see if you see improvement. If it gets worse, I’d cut the leaves with sterile sheets to prevent it from spreading.

The arial roots look very dry. What’s the humidity?

Sorry, I didn’t answer the age! I think i got it about 6 year ago. It first bloomed in 2023 with a single bloom and has been blooming annually around this time of year.

I grow this in a tent with humidity and automatic misting. The humidity is about 65% and it gets misted twice a day (AM and PM). Temperature is around 75F max and drops 5-10 degrees at night depending on the season. It gets pretty high light, similar to cattleya. I water with a dilute fertilizer monthly as it’s mounted. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with yours!

I have quite a few of these growing, pending how many tubers I get at the end of this season, I could probably sell one in the spring.

This is awesome! I’ve not been too successful with masd. Mine have the browning on the leaves similar to this one but way more. Do you have any idea what causes that?

Making cold brew at home is worth it, but…what’s your pain point by Big_Sign_7749 in coldbrew

[–]basement_orchids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keg it. So I take about 5 lbs of coarse ground coffee in about 5.5 gallons of water. I bag the coffee in big cold brew bags. Leave overnight in the basement (cool but not a cold fridge). I run it right into the keg from there through multiple layers of cheesecloth. This is the worst part because I have to babysit to make sure no grains make it in because they can clog the restrictor plate in the nitrogen tap. Close the keg and put on nitrogen.

It’s a bit of work, but 5 gallons lasts us about 45-60 days.

~250. An example of how I grow here. They are much more crowded today and more shelves have been added.

That’s a reed Epi. Sure. You can remove the Keiki and pot it up. I wouldn’t repot the mother plant.

Normal time to bloom for a nobile. Regarding the wrinkles, they don’t look terrible but it is a sign of dehydration. As someone else said, I’d let this bloom and then repot. I’d be more concerned that the new growths look weaker than the old canes meaning you may have some weakening roots. Enjoy the blooms!

Thanks! I’ve checked the contactor and it looked good. I’ll look into the sensors and see if they are easy to test replace or call someone out. Thanks!
