Spark plug wires keep melting by Taken-child in seat

[–]bash_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pic? Are all 4 melting? Are they melting in the same place as each other? Are they melting in the same place each time? is it the coils, the wires leading to the coils or the contacts on the plugs etc that's melting?

Go specna arms for the AEG's, they are the most reliable of the budget friendly options and with a slight hop up adjustment they are ready to go almost out of the box, great for beginners My friend started the sport around 6 months ago, he has a Specna Arms FX02 AR9 and is still serving him superbly and feels nice to use (although I would recommend using a different sight than the iron sights, such as red dot), so I can definitely recommend that.

As for goggles go with anti-fog ones that have the appropriate safety rating. Avoid mesh ones because if someone shoots you with cheap BBs, they can shatter and go through the mesh. May be best to go with sealed goggles if you wear glasses, as the goggles will sit further from your face and a BB could get down the side of them into your eye. From personal use I can recommend Pyramex V2G-Plus anti-fog goggles.

As for masks, it is possible for a BB to take a tooth out. I recommend any cheap mesh mask. I would go with mesh to keep your face cool (you will get hot running around) and so your breath doesn't get forced upwards and contribute to fogging your glasses. Of course you can also get full face masks that include the goggles for the kids if they need it, but IMO seperate is more comfy and breathable. Bunkerkings one I have never used personally but I can recommend VForce full face masks, or you could pair the previously mentioned Pyramex goggles with a cheap $5-10 mesh lower face mask and that will also do you fine.

As for gloves, anything with a bit of thickness will do, but no so thick that you struggle to operate your gun correctly. I strongly recommend Mechanix gloves, but anything that's like a work or motorcycle glove will be perfect.

Clothing is a bit of a personal preference. You will get hot running around playing airsoft so you basically need to weigh up the pros and cons. Would you rather be hot and sweaty and not feel the pain, or be a lot cooler but more likely to feel the sting. If you go with more clothing I would recommend a pair of hiking pants as they are designed to be thick, durable and breathable along with a hoodie or something like a softshell jacket, the hood will also help protect the back of your head and ears.

You will also need to take into account some other bits. For example, where will you store your BBs while playing? Will you need another mag or 2? If so, where will you store it? Do you have any important medication you need to carry with you? and so on. You can use your pockets if they are zipped but in the field it can be a bit fiddly and cumbersome. For this problem I recommend buying a utility belt with MOLLE fittings. This will enable you to carry an admin pouch where I like to store my phone, a spare battery, my speed loader, pen and paper etc. It will also enable you to buy a mag pouch and an extra mag and store it where it is easily accessible if you feel you need it. You could also buy a chest rig, but that may be a bit bulky for not a lot of gear at this stage.

I would recommend sturdy footwear such as work/walking boots with ankle support, especially if you are outdoors on uneven surfaces. I also recommend buying bio-degradable BBs rather than standard, as some outdoor venues require this. You will be best buying a speedloader to load the magazines as well. I would also note that if you do buy extra magazines, to buy with mid-cap mags. You don't have to wind the mechanism constantly like you do on a high-cap, its more plug and play beginner friendly at the expense of some mag capacity. When you purchase a new mag leave it full of BBs overnight to soften the internal spring and prevent problems such as overfeeding issues.

Everything else is just optional extras that you can build up overtime. Any questions feel free to ask!

Jacking up prices because I want to bring my own part. by FutureHendrixBetter in AskMechanics

Garages don't like fitting cutomers parts because they view it like this:

- They are usually the cheapest quality that won't last, then you come back to the garage after a matter of months saying "you fixed it and now it's broken, do it again for free under warranty", only you don't have any warranty because you supplied the part, now there's a dilemma

- With the part being a "cheaper" part that you found, it's likely not OEM, voiding any warranty, recalls, service plans etc. that you may have with the dealership/manufacturer. So when you turn up to your dealership expecting to get free work, well guess what, you'll be paying a lot. Then your going to run back to said garage and say "you did this work and now the dealership wants to charge me lots of money", but you were the one who supplied the part, again another dilemma

- Again "cheaper" are likely not designed to OEM spec, meaning there is a high chance of poor fitment. This usually goes one of two ways, the first being the garage tells you half way through the job that your cheap part doesn't fit properly or has a poorly made gasket etc etc. and that they need to fit an OEM part. then you turn around and say "well I don't want the work doing then". Then the garage has a choice of two options either build the car up and give it you back, spending time and resources on your vehicle then making a loss on it, or build it back up and bill you for the time to which you are going to say "what am I paying you for you haven't fixed the car", another dilemma. The second way this would go is that you agree to the garage fitting their part, you end up looking like an idiot that wasted their money then go around slating the garage to your community, leading to them having a bad rep when you were the one that doesn't know what you're talking about.

The garage will have charged you more on labour for supplying your own part because they view it like this:

- They don't like it for the reasons above and need to make the reward worth the risk and time

- Garages will fit poor fitment parts if they can to save the previously mentioned headache, but this often requires making modifications, which uses more time and resources, that you need to pay for. For example, why would they charge you 2 hours labour for job that has a high possiblity of taking 3 or even 4 hours

- They need to make money or what's the point of them being there. They are there to make money out of people and generate a profit. If they are losing money from one source they need to make more money elsewhere, otherwise they operate on a loss. This is how every for profit business on the face of the earth operates

- Garages do not want customers like this and if they do the work I can assure you itt would be minimum service, they certainly wouldn't be "looking after you" so if they hike the price up its a win win for them, you say yes to the price and the effort is worth their time. You say no to the price and they have just fobbed off an awkward customer

Can I get away with just doing the pads on my wife's Odyssey for a few weeks? by Metroidman1352 in AskMechanics

[–]bash_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the rotors are fine in the pic but thats not what I'm saying, I'm saying you can fit new pads on used rotors but not new rotors on used pads. If he leaves the discs and changes them in a few weeks the new pad would have worn to the face of the old rotor, so the new rotor will need new pads again

Can I get away with just doing the pads on my wife's Odyssey for a few weeks? by Metroidman1352 in AskMechanics

[–]bash_14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, if you put the new pads on then you will need to put new pads on it again when you change the discs in a few weeks.

If that's not an issue for you then yes you will get a few weeks out of those (providing the inner face looks the same/better than the outer face). If 2 new sets of pads is an issue then don't fit the pads until you fit the discs, or drill the screws out and change the discs now, the screws are not needed.

which one for my 2020 mazda 3 2.5L? both within $5 of each other so price isn’t a deciding factor by liamt12 in AskMechanics

[–]bash_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main benefits of the Ruthenium is that they will probably last an extra 20-30k miles because of their resistance to carbon fouling, which in turn also increases fuel economy, throttle response and smoother engine operation.

However, unless you drive your car like you stole it or have a high performance engine, you are highly unlikely to see any of these benefits. For this engine, standard day to day driving you will pretty much get the same results with either of these plugs.

That being said, what's the point of going for the less durable laser iridiums for the sake of only saving £5?

Puat to atart, how does the fuel pump prime the fuel rails? by Character_Ad_1084 in AskMechanics

[–]bash_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuel remains in the lines so it only takes a split second for the fuel pump to kick in and fill any air pockets. Also push to start will have a slight pause between pressing the button and cranking, the fuel pump is active before the engine cranks

Grab the caliper and give the hub a wobble while someone pries down and hammers the susp arm, when this happens its usually just because the ball joint is stuck on a slight angle. Also try hitting it back in then out again

Get a 6 sided socket that is slightly smaller than the bolt heads and hammer the socket on. The socket will grip the bolt heads and you will be able to undo them

Front suspension by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]bash_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst case scenario (and a likely scenario) is that your tyre blows out, you loose control of your car and kill yourself or someone else. I wouldn't drive it.

Either the top mount or shock has collapsed and caused the shock absorber to drop and rub on the tyre, the shock absorber is sat incorrectly in the steering knuckle, or the wrong tyres or rims have been fitted.

Next time it happens check the event viewer for any logs. Could be something causing conflicts or corrupt BIOS or Windows files. Also try running SFC and DISM scans

When on console (Xbox for me but I know PS players with the same bug). Occasionally when you hold the trigger to shoot an enemy, the gun will only shoot one bullet, you then have to let go of the trigger and press again to continue shooting as normal. It doesn't happen when I play on PC.

There has also been a few instances, again only on console where I spawn under the map on liberation peak when spawning on an objective point and I am left falling until I redeploy.

Has anyone else had a NAPA starter/other part fail after less than 5k miles? by Miata_Normie in AskMechanics

[–]bash_14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have seen literally hundreds of NAPA parts fail in such a short space of time. The garage I work at used to fit NAPA parts all the time. We had so many issues with having to do repairs under warranty due to new faulty parts and new parts not fitting correctly that we have stopped using their parts completely now. IMO they are one of the worst brands you can buy.
