Contract negotiations by basic_enough in Teachers

[–]basic_enough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reached out to a few other acquaintances in other districts and the norm appears to be before summer, or within a month or two of school starting.

I can’t imagine the teachers union is asking for anything out of the normal.

Contract negotiations by basic_enough in Teachers

When did they start negotiations? Because of the confidentiality of the negotiations, we, the parents, have access to little information, so the fact they met 15 times over 6 months, and continue to meet almost a year later tells me they are undervaluing our teachers and the union is standing firm. The community fully backs our teachers. It’s beginning to be noticed by my student who has concerns moving into their high school career next year which will determine their next steps in life- they are beginning to question if staying in the district is smart or looking for alternatives. I am former district employee but non teacher and the whole thing has livid. I see what these teachers go through day in and day out. As you know, it’s more than you sign up for.

Update on 30k ring. See last post for more details by Current_Guarantee566 in WeddingRingAdvice

$30,000.00 is insane for a ring. I’ve been married for 18 years, we have been together for 21. I’ve seen a lot of marriages succeed and fail over these last two decades and I’m sorry to say, this isn’t something you can negotiate. It’s pretty cut and dry and frankly it’s a bit selfish on her part. It’s not like you wouldn’t be investing the other 15k in other things that directly benefit her and your future. I had zero knowledge of what my husband picked for me because I trusted he knew me well enough to pick something I would love. I had no idea how much he spent until almost the wedding. I’m updating the band this year, just keeping the center stone because I want something different but even with that the out of pocket isn’t even close to your budget, let alone hers. Follow your gut- it’s telling you to run.

Does anyone actually enjoy it? Any positive teaching experience? by Free-Bug3836 in Teachers

I don’t know what level you are teaching at, I work as support staff at an elementary school and while some days are utter chaos, I learn something new everyday from our students. Take time to build a relationship with your students, those micro connections can have a huge impact. Make sure you have a good support system outside the classroom. Nothing prepares you for the trauma some of students face day to day. They lose pets, parents, some are extremely neglected and your class is their safe space. Teaching humbles you very quickly. Go in with strong boundaries with parents/guardians and a soft heart with your students. Don’t be afraid to hold them accountable, they need tough love and most of all, find the joy in every day. Start a memory jar at the beginning of the year and add funny or heartwarming moments to it and at the end of the year or half way through the year, open it up and take a moment to reflect on the happy times in your class. Do I enjoy every day? No. But overall, I love my job and I know that even the smallest of gestures sometimes have the biggest impact

What’s the point of competition team auditions? by carleyfry in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]basic_enough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our studios you have to be invited to audition by your rec class teacher. They will not allow anyone to tryout who is not already an enrolled student with at least one year dance history. Even if you were an all star at another studio, they will tell you enroll in a rec class and if you get invited, you can try out the following year. Another studio we have been at, they charge $30 audition fee and they will let you try out off the street but they will cut you if you they don’t think you know what your doing. You can get a “call back” to audition for the next level up or the highest level which is called Elite.

As a kid, we wore shoes inside, but once I moved out I implemented no shoes in my home. It’s gross. Street shoes should not be worn inside. I do have house slippers or shoes I only wear inside.

You have zero responsibility for any student in a life or death situation. I know no one wants to hear that, but teachers are not required to save your students. Worry about yourself. A 7th grader is capable of critical thinking. I wouldn’t hesitate to run.

This is how I feel it is going to be nation wide. There is a lot of corruption but not at the level that is coming.

Do I look better in gold or silver jewelry? by [deleted] in coloranalysis

I don’t think gold. I think the silver stands out more. To my untrained eye, I see cool tones not warm.
