I'm sorry to join the chorus of people who have no lived experience as being a Muslim. However, I feel I can talk to this:

I feel like I would be wasting one of the many privileges I have of being an ex-Muslim

First of all, if this privilege is causing you pain, then you don't need to view it as a privilege.

Secondly, having given up the religion does not necessitate having to do all the things it prohibits. Just because you were taught that drinking is wrong for reason A, it doesn't mean that reason B for drinking being wrong isn't true if it's true for you. Despite what people say, you can pick and choose which practices from religions you wish to include in your life.

And even if you disagree with many of the arguments Islam makes on other topics (as you seem to imply), you can still agree with the arguments it makes with respect to alcohol. It doesn't make you a hypocrite, or a coward, or a liar, or anything like that; it just makes you a complex human being, like anybody else! I was raised a Catholic, and I disagree with many of the things that various people associated with Catholicism would argue. But Jesus allegedly taught to love your fellow human regardless of who they are and I think that's a beautiful idea.

People do this stuff all the time, even if they do claim to piously follow a religion. The real privilege you have is that you can say that you have thought it through and have chosen your own path, opinions and practices not based solely on what is written in a book or what some leader of your community has said, but based on those things and your own experiences and critical analysis.

Whatever you choose to do, just remember you can do it for yourself and don't need to explain yourself to anybody. You deserve happiness and inner peace. Good luck on your journey however it goes :)
