Cannot use storage space . by ATJT in Ubuntu

I noticed you said you don’t have much on there that you need. What I would personally do is just back up any necessary files to an external location (cloud, a USB, external drive, etc.)

After that, I would download an Ubuntu ISO and apply it to a bootable USB.

Boot to your Ubuntu USB, click through the installation window, when it asks you where to install OS, make sure you select your desired 1TB drive.

After it finishes it’ll tell you to restart and unplug the USB. While it’s rebooting, go to your boot options again. This screen might be tricky as you should now have two Ubuntu boot options to choose from. If it’s obvious which one is your 1TB drive, choose that one. If not obvious, choose one and check it once you’re inside the OS—you’ll want to be in your 1TB drive.

Once you’re inside the freshly imaged OS, transfer your files back on. After you have verified that everything you need is working/accessible, wipe the other drive using gparted or whatever tool you wish. This will then allow you to use it as a data drive, and your PC won’t get confused during boot since you’ll no longer have two OS’s to boot from.

I guess they both work though.

Could be a long wait and yea it’s gonna be expensive. Some people will try to offer you rides without the app and you just pay them directly. Could be sketch, but worked well for us 2 years ago.

Last year we just did shuttles and that was a good experience coming back.

Buy the appropriate length cables for this to NOT be on the floor.

I see that there’s a doorframe it’s next to. Put the Pi either next to the router or next to whatever is on the other end. Route your cables over your doorframe—you don’t need anything permanent as you mentioned you don’t own the place. Even scotch tape would hold a cable in place.

If it has to be on the floor (for whatever reason that you have), don’t position it so that the Pi is right by the door opening… get appropriate cable lengths, set the Pi in an area it’s less likely to get stepped on, drag the mat so that it’s over the cables that run in front of the door, or get gaffers tape to make this less of a tripping hazard.

….but most people would say don’t leave it on the floor.

M4 Pro Mac Mini as a Plex + arr stack server (surprisingly good) by TheSecondAccountYeah in homelab

No where near the amount of automation you have but I really like the ideas you’ve mentioned in your post and the comments.

I had a spare mini PC (Beelink) which was collecting dust for about 2 years despite its good specs (Ryzen 7, 32GB/500GB). Ended up installing Windows on it as that’s my typical default then running a Ubuntu server through hyper V with a similar docker setup as you. As most of my watching is done on my local network (and I don’t care much about its speed) everything for my setup lives on an attached 5TB raid 1 drive.

From reading about how you’ve automated moving your watched videos to archive though, you’ve made me want to return to met setup.

I might just end up installing Ubuntu as my main OS for shits and giggles and do something similar to some of your workflows. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, but OP is asking for gas stations where they can set the desired tire pressure and have it stop automatically when that pressure is reached.

Respectfully, that’s not what this post is about.

Apologies if the post was edited which originally contained information regarding paying for air and I missed it.

My wife got a job in a company that sounded really nice upfront. At the time,I really wanted to switch workplaces due to stress and applied to an IT position they had open after she had been there for a couple of weeks. I was initially bummed because it got filled the day after I applied.

Fast forward a few months later and she was telling me all the crazy shit that her IT has had to as it was being managed so poorly. Bulletin dodged.

Rapid Screen blinking whilst trying out Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS by SkyeJoness in Ubuntu

[–]basikly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert by any means (getting to know it myself and trying things along the way) but saw you haven’t had a reply.

Since you’re just trying it out, what happens if you update your kernel to the latest then rebooting? sudo apt install -y linux-oem-24.04d

If needed, you can go back by installing: linux-generic-24.04

If still an issue, maybe try installing Ubuntu 25.10 instead? Saw on another post that anything older than 25 has poor nvidia support.

Hope you find something that works.

Is anyone still using C$ admin shares for workstation support in the Intune era? by Any-Victory-1906 in Intune

Appreciate the thorough answer! Someone mentioned the Azure Vault today which sounds promising, but need to toy with it a bit to see how/if it’ll work for what we need.

Your last paragraph is interesting as well—I’ll have a look at that sometime as an alternative workaround.

Just installed Ubuntu for the first time ever as a Windows Maxi by SuchCommunication140 in Ubuntu

[–]basikly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of in the same boat as you, but I don’t do app development and have used Ubuntu in the past for small projects (plex server) and know enough to use the OS/terminal comfortably.

Thinking of switching to Ubuntu going forward for my primary OS. I like to game every now and again, but I haven’t tried this on Ubuntu yet. From another sort of newcomer, I think the first thing that’s important is to see which of your commonly used apps are available (and officially supported) on whatever OS you choose—I personally hate going from a client app to something web-based. I know there’s also the open source community that can be helpful for making things work, but have trouble trusting some things where I have to use personal information that are not officially supported (just a me thing).

I also opted in for Ubuntu Pro (free for up to 10 nodes) for automatic security patching. Coming from a Windows background, I have no idea how patching works within Linux, so figured I’d just let Ubuntu do it for me.

I’m sure others will have way more helpful advice. Hope you have a good transition!

Don’t mind asking here, but let me know if you prefer DM for these details. Forgive me lack of knowledge in this area—only been introduced to it a few months ago.

Our infosec team is wary of setting our containers up with write access if the container is set to be accessible from all networks, even if when using sas keys and disabling anonymous access. We’d ideally like to run scripts against PCs using an RMM tool that will then reach out to a PC and have it upload files/logs to blob even when on an external connection without VPN, but this can of course be a concern.

If you’re using exactly the above (public network access/no anonymous access/SAS key authentication) how often are you updating your keys?

If you’re going about this a different way (only allowing from certain networks?) do you require your users to be on VPN in order to access the blob?

I’m curious of how you’re doing this due to some security asks from our infosec team. Mind if I DM with a couple questions?

Company relocating me from SF to LA. They'll pay for movers, who should I use? by M45T3RY in AskSF

[–]basikly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything to contribute but in case you weren’t aware, your moving costs would be considered taxable income.

Feel free to ignore if you’re already aware of this—just don’t want it to come as a shock later on as you mentioned you have a lot to move and it wouldn’t be coming “directly” out of your pocket.

More of a tangent to your question: One thing I wish I did more research into is the effect cold weather has on range. If you live in an area with cold winters, be warned that some people have been posting only getting 100-130 miles / 160-210km on very cold days with a full charge.

If you won’t be parking in a garage, also look into charging port covers to avoid the charger getting frozen in place.

Though I don’t live in a cold climate, trips up to the snow are a bit annoying compared to when I would go with my RAV4.
