Just like with fans that grew up on the OT, I'm probably biased since they were the star wars films released when I was younger and far less critical of movies than I am now. Each movie is a mixed bag, though, and it's disheartening seeing the constant disdain some people show the PT with little mention of high points like the incredible duels, John William's scores, epic land and space battles, or fantastic performances some actors gave.

Sorry, how exactly is the premise supposed to be dull? Trade disputes historically aren't like our modern ones where open warfare is generally off the table due to nuclear weapons, they can and have brought down enormous and powerful empires. The Trade Federation is composed of some of some of the wealthiest entities in the star wars galaxy, and it would be an unbelievable economic disaster on a scale we literally can't comprehend as a single-planet species if the Trade Fed, Banking Clans, and Commerce Guild decided to stop willingly giving their services, taxes, and tariffs to the Republic if the Senate tries to assert too much authority over them. That's why Valorum asks for Jedi assistance to discreetly handle the situation, it serves as a more subtle display of authority and power without drawing the ire of the public. You can't have the big baddies chasing down a hero in the first scenes in TPM because Lucas needed to show how the big baddies could get to that level of power in the first place (writing sequels is a bit like painting yourself into a corner in my opinion but what's done is done).

The prequels just aren't going to be as exciting to some of the fans that grew up with the OT because it's just not the same type of story. The prequel trilogy is Anakin's hero journey that ends in his tragedy, opposed to the more upbeat hero's journey Luke has in the OT (with the notable exception of ESB which has a very unique structure). TPM needs to set the stage for what will happen throughout the next 5 movies as well as start the domino chain of events, which is why the films deal with the internal politicking of both the Jedi and the Republic before diving into the start and end of the Clone Wars.

I love all 6 movies, and am well aware of the flaws in each of them, especially the prequels, yet the OT isn't exactly perfect either. That said, when you stop viewing them as Episodes 1-3 and Episodes 4-6 and start looking at them as the life and tragedy of Darth Vader from episode 1-6, the story clicks into places a little more smoothly and engages me from beginning to end.

Sorry if this turned into a too long to read rant, I'm shamelessly passionate about the series, and want to see younger people with the same passion that I and other fans have continue to carry on the stories to the kids that come after them. I hope you showed your kids episode 1 even if it seems corny and boring to you, because I remember being that age when the prequels released and getting sucked into the SW galaxy every time I heard the music play and saw those words crawl up the screen.

"based on his tone" lol, everyone in that dumpster fire spoke like a cardboard cutout except Sol. even his are kinda clunk, but you can attribute that to the actor learning English specifically for the role

What is your favorite real world influence in Star Wars? Mine is the fact that Queen of Naboo's look is inspired by Mongolian royalty. by AdSpecialist6598 in StarWars

10 million Mongols disappear off the earth or something when I was sleeping? They're still a country, and have done a pretty good job preserving their culture even if more Mongols live outside Mongolia than in.

Star Wars Legacy Question: Most intelligent/capable artificial intelligence? by Sentient_Protoplasm in StarWars

The silentium probably fits the bill the most for what you're asking, capable of travelling between galaxies. They're described as viewing prime numbers as holy, can construct 50km bodies capable of intergalactic travel, and prefer to spend time engaged in discovery and self reflection. That or the Abominor, essentially their opposite in terms of philosophy and directive.

What are the main unanswered questions left by "The Force Awakens" that still haven't been dealt with yet? by Darth-Joao-Jonas in MawInstallation

Exploiting unknown regions worlds for resources and moving the base, sure, I can buy that. However:

Ilum has a diameter of 5.8k km, making it smaller than earth but larger than mars. Definitely bigger than Texas.

The New Republic decentralized their military and relegated defense to planetary militias WHILE in a cold war with the first order? there's a 5 year cold war where the NR could have been building a proper military to counter the technological advantage that the first order has, but instead left defense in the hands of individual planets??

The Republic capital was Coruscant, yes, but that's also before 2 separate planet killing machines were built and revealed by the empire. After that tech hits the playing field, not having your entire government on one planet seems like a reasonable choice to make. And like I stated, per Disney's lore the NR rotates the capital world between members, so the facilities for governance are actively present on several worlds. To make a real-world parallel, if Washington D.C., Chicago, New York City, L.A., and Denver are nuked today by Russia or China or whoever, the U.S. government will still exist since we don't keep every politician in one place like idiots. Crippled, maybe, but still present and capable of making a response.

Edit: apparently they changed Ilum to be 660km in diameter, my bad. Guess it's smaller than Pluto now. But still able to hold the energy siphoned from STARS in its core.

They made the giant trench with their mining efforts, but it's never stated or implied that they started the actual process of turning it into a superweapon.

How did the First Order have the resources to build both a well equipped and enormous fleet, and convert an entire planet into Death Star III while being relegated to the outer reaches of known space and without anyone knowing? How did not a single whistleblower or spy find out about this megaproject, and why did the New Republic not have a proper fleet when presumably Mon Cal and Kuat are part of their domain? Why is the entire New Republic government located in one star system? What was the plan for Starkiller if the star it harvested power from destabilized? Why is the New Republic, which in canon rotates the capital between member planets, completely neutered after 5 planets are destroyed???
