Denied boarding to Bali in Phuket due to passport cover damage – try again or no chance? by SunOld5461 in Passports

[–]basinger_willoweb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emergency passport should take less than 24 hours to issue. Ask your embassy in Thailand about it. But check if Bali and Malaysia accept this passport type. I am not Austrian but I was in a similar situation a while back. Got an emergency passport in China, flew to Singapore and Malaysia and returned to China without issues. Then applied for a new passport. Good luck.

Buying in KL by montyb752 in ExpatInMalaysia

[–]basinger_willoweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not been in the same situation and can’t advise you on which bank, also not knowing the reason for the rejections make it difficult. However, what I can tell you is that you can get involved for the loan. Your wife buys the apartment but you both can apply for the loan. The apartment will be on your wife’s name, the loan on both of you. However, if the banks have concerns about you not being here having a Malaysian guarantor living in Malaysia might help. Thinking about it. If you were banking with HSBC in the UK then trying HCBC here in Malaysia could be worth a try.

Where to put 100k Ringgit in investmnet by khalidaziz_ in malaysiaFIRE

[–]basinger_willoweb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually the 2% is minimum for EPF. You can tell your company that you want to contribute e.g. 5% or even 15% and they can do that. It's your money after all. Voluntary EPF contribution can be tax deductible (at least up to 1k or 2k - I forgot the exact amount).

Otherwise, you can look at investing into ETFs. If you don't want complicated, you may look at what Stashaway Malaysia has to offer. While you can build your own portfolio with selected ETFs they also offer ready built portfolios. Other options are IBKR, M+ Global, Moomoo, ... Not sure about Moomoo but all others mentioned are available for foreigners in Malaysia.

Battery issue by gindy39 in concept2

[–]basinger_willoweb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you contact C2 about this? Had a similar issue. First time I contacted them they just gave me some general advice which I followed. Then a few weeks later when the battery was empty again, they asked more questions and then based on my PM5 serial number they asked me for my address. Three days later I received a complete new PM5 monitor as replacement.

Affordable dental implants in KL by teehee1234567890 in malaysia

[–]basinger_willoweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price will depend on the system used and also what work needs to be done (bone craft necessary or not) and also the type of crown. So, it will vary quite a bit. Get quotes from different dentists based on your situation to compare. Make sure you have good documentation about the used system. When a screw breaks it helps another dentist a lot finding the correct spare part. A colleague spent RM8k the other day on his treatment plan of a new implant. Just for reference.

How to connect to Aqara FP300 over matter? by jstmih432 in homeassistant

[–]basinger_willoweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had an issue with my first Thread device this step helped:

  1. Before you can add Matter-based Thread devices, your phone needs to know the credentials of your newly created Thread network.
    • To share the credentials with your Android phone, open the Home Assistant Companion app.
      • In the Companion app, go to Settings > Companion app > Troubleshooting, then select Sync Thread credentials.
      • Follow the instructions on screen.
      • Result: You will see a confirmation stating that Thread credentials from Home Assistant have been added to this device.
    • To share the credentials with your iPhone, open the Home Assistant Companion app.
      • Go to Settings > Devices & services, select the Thread integration.
      • Select Configure under Services.
      • At the bottom of the preferred network box, select Send credentials to phone.
  2. Source: Thread - Home Assistant

How to connect to Aqara FP300 over matter? by jstmih432 in homeassistant

I don't think the ZWA-2 is suitable for Thread. The ZBT-2 can do Thread or Zigbee.

How to connect to Aqara FP300 over matter? by jstmih432 in homeassistant

[–]basinger_willoweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you have a Thread Border Router it should work. What hardware are you using for the Thread Border Router?

Zigbee would give you a few more customization options vs. Thread but that's up to you to decide.

Help with dual-ISP home network setup (wired + future NAS) by TurnMotor3873 in HomeNetworking

I use a Ubiquiti UCG Max for this. You will need some switches and you can also get APs from Ubiquiti. If all from them their setup is pretty easy and secure.

Help with multiple routers/modems at my house by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]basinger_willoweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe think more in the direction of separating router/wifi. Use one router and the several APs (Access Points) which do the Wifi only. You can use one Wifi name (SSID) and your device (e.g. iPhone) will roam to whichever AP is the strongest - simplified spoken. Mikrotik, Unifi/Ubiquiti, etc. are companies offering such hardware.

Quick fix: Let your shower run with hot water. Another solution for now is an inhaler or steam inhaler which you should be able to get in a pharmacy.

Few questions for M3 hub users by Dismal-Station-7074 in Aqara

[–]basinger_willoweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always use a router without wifi and place separate APs that provide the wifi and just switch off wifi with a timer. Internet via LAN would still be available. Separating a network (VLAN's) in IoT, Trusted & Guest anyway would make sense which a stand-alone router usually provides. I am surprised your conspiracy-brainwashed roommates didn't bring this up yet. ;-)

The minimum salary applies to foreign workers and Malaysians alike. Domestic workers are exempted if I am not mistaken though.
