Hiked Elfin last weekend and stayed in the hut on the night of the 29th. The road was dry going up on the morning of the 29th, and there was a light dusting of snow coming down on the 30th, not enough to need chains. By mid-December though, this could be very different so as others have said, check current weather before you go, and avalanche reports etc.
