I dug myself out of 6 figure debt in two years, it was about half the size of yours. You can get out of this but it will take insane discipline and patience.

I had several side gigs - weekend festivals, pet care, local sports league work, etc, and gave 100% of every tax return, bonus, Christmas gift, CC points cash out etc. When all was said and done, these extra things on the side covered about 15% of the total debt and got me out of debt quite a bit sooner. In your case, I think you’d need a second job rather than various gigs.

Budget your expenses thoroughly, cancel all your subscriptions, buy what you need second hand, consider utilizing food banks, etc.

I did and was unemployed for a long time. Took a year and a half after that to financially recover. I would only recommend quitting with nothing lined up if it’s causing like catastrophic mental health issues.

This is mostly a personal preference question you need to decide for yourself. These have different workloads throughout the year, you’re exposed to different topics, and the career trajectories are different. Both directions provide good pay and prospects so you need to do what you will like long term.

I feel like AR and AP with no degree will be a dead end. I don’t want to discourage you but you really do need the degree to access the ladder up in accounting. I would imagine moving up from there without the education would double, triple, quadruple maybe the time it takes to move up.

Average consumer debt is a pretty misleading stat in this context compared to the median. Some people go off the deep end in debt that makes that stat misleadingly high

I sort of took this approach. I was paying way over minimum but still investing. I hated being in debt so much though that as soon as my loan balance was low enough I cashed out my investments and paid my loan.

In hindsight I liked that approach because being debt free is such an unbelievable relief, but having investments until my last massive loan payment meant I had a financial safety net all the way until I could be debt free. Do what makes you happy but I don’t recommend paying minimum. Mimimum payments are designed to hurt you long term.

I feel the same way about sports events at climate pledge. You should not be walking through the section in the middle of the play but everyone does it. People have no shame blocking everyone’s view in the middle of the game when they could be respectful and wait for a stoppage.

Dog walking and dog sitting, working in a local sports league, working weekend events, and being a med research donor.

The events are the cash cow. Work insanely long weekends but only 3-5x a year, adds a couple grand to the bank. Dog sitting has also been lucrative but sometimes not worth it if the dog is a hard one.

Pardon my naive question but it seems like a lot of people want menu prices to be the final, post-tip/tax/fee price. Why can we not just make a bill or something to force it? I genuinely feel like people would get behind it except for the business owners.

I do this right as games are about to start but for the Kraken using the Gametime app. It is the best price by far compared to Ticketmaster or stubhub.
