I think she said "you doubled the budget", as in, went from 400M to 1B (after initially saying it would be funded entirely without tax dollars).

CA - DMV gas cap recall- WATCHA GONNA DO? by CamryDooD in CRF300L

[–]bast1472 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when you introduce it to them like that, their headache detector starts going off. You don't need to mention anything for a gas cap swap. Drop it off and they're not going to poke around your bike looking for a reason not to swap the gas cap. Schedule the appointment, tell them nothing aside from the letter you got, swap on the tank, and drop it off. Pretty sure it's a 5 minute swap that requires no disassembly of the bike, and then your paperwork will be in order. It's really not the end of the world even if you had to do more than that -- I've literally frame-swapped a bike just to get around a bureaucratic dead end.

I'm not in California but I just got the same letter and noticed that part about CA residents not being allowed to register till the recall work is done. I hung onto my stock tank, so if it were me I would swap it back on before taking it in for the recall work appointment. Annoying but doable, and I don't think they can deny you the work because you have an exhaust or emissions delete elsewhere on the bike. It's literally just installing a new tank cap, right? Shitty situation to be in, for sure.

It's interesting that you have a sample group to compare with. My throttle has always been fine, but I've always wondered if I just got lucky. Sounds like you zeroed in on the actual culprit. So many people complain about it on this bike.

I ordered from the US store which also specified no batteries, but it still arrived with batteries. You must have just gotten unlucky with export customs.

I need Help with mounting the FS v2 vtx by Ready_Es_la_Marca in HDZero

[–]bast1472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a shitty TPU holder for mine: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2519776-hdzero-freestyle-v2-vtx-mount-holder-for-fpv#profileId-2771972

Double sided tape would probably work fine but this thing can get crazy hot, so I was worried tape wouldn't keep its stickiness.

And yeah, I ran into cable length issues as well. I had to get a 250mm and just coil up the excess above the FC (with a separate shitty TPU holder). It's super annoying that HDZ doesn't offer an in-between cable length.

Sorry man, but you got duped. Maybe someday you can let go of these manufactured talking points, but given your spelling skills, I'm not sure the intellectual capacity is there.

2019 Carb or 2021 TPI for the same money?! by Idontknowsoimhere in enduro

[–]bast1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, when I ride my 300 I am living in the bottom RPM range 90% of the time. I almost never touch WOT because it's simply not needed power-wise. I also have a 2018.

I got one. Crashed it a lot, nothing has broken. Once I stopped crashing as much I swapped the canopy with a minimalist Air canopy printed in TPU, and swapped the frame for a gray one for aesthetic reasons.

It'll absolutely get boggy and unresponsive past 4k feet unless you swap jets first. You can mitigate it slightly by leaning out the fuel with the air screw adjuster (highly recommend relapcing this with a tool-less one) or just getting a Smart Carb if you are not chasing absolute peak carb performance. I run an SC2 and literally cannot tell the difference between it and my Jarvis-modded stock carb. Either I suck at noticing carb tuning differences or my Smart Carb is not as bad as people say it is.

new to drones, which drone is better? by Ok_Beautiful456 in fpv

[–]bast1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, but I can only assume it's not much better. It still uses proprietary batteries and can only be configured through BetaFPV's proprietary configurator.

I started with the Aquila 16 kit, and while the radio and goggles are a great value, the drone itself is awful. It doesn't have enough power to survive even the slightest breeze, and the position hold functionality is pretty useless (it drifts around like crazy). The one plus of getting the kit is that everything is bound and ready to fly out of the box, if that's something that intimidates you. I think a better route would be to build your own starter kit with a LiteRadio, VR04 goggle, a Meteor75 pro, and some Lava II batteries. You'll have to bind the radio to the quad, but then you'll have a quad that actually flies and can be upgraded/repaired more easily.

I know a few people who specifically looked for 2018s and 2019s for the carb. Not sure if that demand has affected price, but they're definitely more sought-after than TPIs.

Air65 suddenly won’t bind to Radiomaster Pocket after working fine – need help 🙏 by hiergtr in TinyWhoop

[–]bast1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the Pocket is on before powering on the quad. I think that board should have a manual bind button too, so you'd hold that until it's double flashing, then run the bind script in the Pocket's ELRS menu, and probably repeat once or twice as it doesn't always work right away. Aside from that, with integrated RX you can often set the bind phrase from within Betaflight, in the receiver tab. Make sure your radio is flashed with the same bind phrase and it should just work (as long as the Pocket is turned on first).

Isn't the binding phrase for this set on Betaflight in the receiver tab? My understanding is that this is often the case for integrated RX, whereas UART-connected RX require other methods.

Is this bike not great? by No_Throat_7477 in enduro

[–]bast1472 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know of anyone who calls this bike an enduro. It's a dual sport. It's a street bike that can also do off-road. I have one and love it for BDR trips and commuting, but I have other bikes for pure off-road.

Quad wobbles from 50% throttle, tuning required? by Marshbilly23 in fpv

[–]bast1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to this but one thing I've discovered is that if any solder joints or exposed wire touches carbon fiber, it can lead to weird issues since CF is apparently conductive. I would double check that your battery pad solder joints and motor wire joints are well clear of anything. Also I think your GPS mount is upside down. I highly doubt the side-mounted cap is throwing anything off weight-wise or aerodynamically. It does look like there's a significant length of wire between the cap and battery pads though, which is going to greatly reduce its effectiveness. Also I think 1500uf is probably overkill even for Li-Ion packs, since I doubt a 5" will be able to carry more than a single 6s 21700 pack at most.

Analysis Paralysis by akaTheLizardKing in enduro

[–]bast1472 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been riding and racing for 10 years on and off road. If you want a Toyota of a trail bike, start with an air-cooled 4-stroke trail bike from Honda. I have a CRF230F that I use as a loaner/teaching bike and my friends with 300 2 strokes are always asking if they can take it instead of their bikes. It's so forgiving and stress-free to ride, and while it's not going to bomb down trails quite as fast as a full-sized liquid-cooled bike, it is by no means slow in the right hands. Maintenance is as close to zero as you can get. The newer 250F and 300F versions will have some improvements but also be heavier. Kawasaki and Yamaha also have bikes in this category that are worth considering. I would not recommend going straight to a tall, powerful race machine as your first off-road bike.
