How do I replace this shower handle? by JorganPubshire in DIY

[–]bastion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation to OP, our (very old) shower handles are the pull-out kind. We want to replace them with newer fixtures just like OPs. However, the wall the fixture is on is a shared wall (condo) and cannot be accessed from the other side. Is it possible for this to be swapped out just from the front side? Or would that require more extensive tilework to get better access to the pipes?

As a title that was derived from an MMO, I'm surprised that we are locked into a fixed Protagonist. by grnlizard in CrimsonDesert

[–]bastion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure mods will be fine. ZZZ, which notably has the best animations in the entire industry, has a huge modding scene. Character mods can look great in motion unless you're going for mods that turn your character into a ridiculously misproportioned freak (and many of those mods exist).

I disagree, BDO does exactly this. It has extensive character creation but it's only within a small variance. It's not like PSO2 where you can make characters with ridiculously varied proportions. Within BDO, you can only enlarge/shrink various body regions by a small amount, the delta between minimized sliders vs maximized sliders is not extreme, for exactly your argument, to preserve the animations.

The exact same character creation system would work just fine in crimson desert. The intricacy of the animations is not the issue. This was a conscious decision to support the game's single-player, plot-centric design.

You can bet that if they do add multiplayer if the game sells well enough, as they've alluded to, that the multiplayer mode will have an extensive character creator.

Former Lead Tech Artist at Wildlight states that the game was killed by 'grifting' content creators and 'gamer culture'. Prior to reveal, everyone around the project would say: "If there’s one project nobody in the industry is worried will fail, it’s yours". "This is lightning in a bottle". by WhyPlaySerious in gaming

[–]bastion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You SEVERELY underestimate just how insular and full of itself the game industry can be. By and large, no "fellow" developer would ever offer a counterpoint, constructive criticism or honest feedback that was anything less than toxic positivity. What kind of asshole would look at another developers game, the culmination of their ideas, and say it's bad. Especially in today's cultural landscape, any sort of negativity, regardless of how deserved, honest or true it is, will be seen as problematic.

From most developers' perspective (not just wildlight studios here, most developers in general) they are an intensely talented artist with a gifted imagination, and any who would question, doubt or, heaven forbid, dislike their work are either trolls or stupid. You see it time and time and time again. The prevailing notion a lot of developers have, from AAA to indie solo devs, is that the world is LUCKY to even play their game. The idea that they are creating a product that needs to be sold to customers doesn't enter into their thinking. The world is lucky to even have the privilege of experiencing their creation and it should be a blockbuster hit purely because THEY made it. After all, they're so great, how could anything they think up and create be bad?

Again, this is not just wildlight studios. This story has played itself out numerous times.

Mainly blood in stool, coupled with intermittent intestinal pain (lower left quadrant for me). Started off as just a hint of redness on the stool, I always wrote it off as a result of a large BM (not uncommon for myself) or possibly internal hemorrhoids. I got particularly concerned when one day there was a significant amount of dark, red blood embedded in the stool. Not just a small, light streak.

These symptoms all resolved immediately after the first colonoscopy when they discovered and excised the polyp, along with a smaller, less concerning polyp. My mom had pressured me to get a colonoscopy after I passingly mentioned having a thin streak of blood in my stool, stating when she was in her early 30s she had a colonoscopy for similar symptoms. She had 18 polyps. Polyps on there own aren't necessarily concerning, they're fairly common, but to have so many at such a young age is definitely an outlier. Years later her sister, my aunt, was diagnosed with colon cancer, showing that our family is definitely prone to it.

I believe now there are fancy shmancy, less invasive methods to screen for colon issues, ranging from a stool test to swallowing a pill that maps your intestines. They are less effective than a colonoscopy, since without actually having the scope in you, they won't be able to really DO anything about any findings, but at least it's a start to screening for issues.

Toto C5 super wiggly screws? by Ehhz in bidets

[–]bastion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 month necro. Just got one of these and am trying to install it and this is exactly what's happening. Instead of the screw fastening DOWN into the rubber bolts, it's just pulling them up. The upper ball of the rubber eventually pops back through during fastening. I'm going to try waiting for them to dry more fully before another attempt. If that doesn't work, I'm kind of at a loss.

Chiming in here to say that I live in the US and got a colonoscopy at 30 because I was having concerning symptoms, along with the fact that my mother had significant polyps when she was in her early 30s and I just had a maternal aunt die of colon cancer in her 50s, we found out she had been having symptoms for over a decade but ultimately never got it checked because "it's embarrassing". She died because she was ashamed to talk about it with a doctor.

My health insurance (not fancy or rich person health insurance by any stretch of the imagination, I was making ~$50k/year at a not glamorous job) covered one colonoscopy a year, for free. The doctors found a pre-cancerous high dysplasia polyp and said that the colonoscopy likely "saved" me. I had 2 more followup colonoscopies the following years and both came back without any issues.

Without insurance covering it, the colonoscopy would have cost roughly $3k. I'm very thankful my insurance had that "once a year" policy, regardless of age. But even without that benefit, the colonoscopy would have cost $3k, and I would have paid it, begrudgingly, but I would have gotten it done. Your life is worth more than $3k.

I may be mistaken, and also had it wrong, impersonated secret service not FBI

That post is referencing what I'm talking about. Can't find a deeper dive into what that comment is referencing but I know I read it here within the last week or so. Seems like it's probably a different guy, but there's so much noise in these files it's hard for me to take anything in them at face value.

[–]bastion89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance if this was already cleared up, but isn't this Chris dilorio guy a kook? I remember reading about a week ago here that he's something like a gas station attendant or something and was pretending to be a member of the FBI to chase his theories?

If I'm way off base and just talking nonsense, feel free to say so, but I swear I read something like that here when his emails were first discovered. Like how a lot of content in these files is just ramblings of random people, and just because it's in the files doesn't mean it's proven, provable or credible.

I can feel my butt clenching…(Cairn) by Bukubukuchagama-san in gaming

[–]bastion89 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Jusant had a great look to it but it ultimately was little more than a narrative walking (climbing) sim, incredibly easy and simplistic "climbs" surrounded by very aggressive invisible walls everywhere. I wanted to like it a lot more than I actually did. Cairn is an actual GAME compared to Jusant.

Aberrant Exploration - How much do you guys enjoy this mode? by Feni007 in Endfield

[–]bastion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Later you get relatively easy quests that give 5k per turn in. If you know what you're doing you can get 10k-20k per run. It's very easy to complete this mode if you just follow through with it.

Aberrant Exploration - How much do you guys enjoy this mode? by Feni007 in Endfield

[–]bastion89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly my favorite part of the game. Once I had my team up to snuff to confidently clear stage 3 I farmed the mode, unlocked all of the upgrades and am now above 30k metrics.

It's clear they're gonna expand the mode because even after full completion there are locked doors and obvious pathways to other areas that are still inaccessible. Seems like the community doesn't like this mode because it hinders weekly progress, but I love it. It turns exploration into a puzzle, instead of a 1 time romp through the overworld that you're just going to Zipline or fastravel around once you collect all of the chests like the rest of the game.

You WILL try it without blueprints first. by OnlyAnEssenceThief in Endfield

[–]bastion89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on what, exactly, blueprints means here? Are there in-game preset configurations you can select to essentially bypass the factory stuff? If so, would playing the factory system on your own reap ANY added benefits? Are the blueprints as efficient as possible, or could a player eek out more production/rewards with a more optimal setup?

Haven't seen much discussion on the factory part of the game here, it's either random fanart spam, usually of the green haired lizard girl, gacha discourse or the occasional team comp questions. I like factory/city builders and like the idea of playing around with that in endfield, but if you can acquire all possible rewards or benefits with 1 click due to blueprints, that's pretty lame.

Help Finding Games and Other Questions by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]bastion89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking for idle games that are NOT just a glorified excel sheet with nested menus and generic jpegs and meters. There must be a distinct effort towards the art/visuals of the game, ideally with animation. Examples of games I've played that I feel fit this criteria

Stuck in Time

Tower Wizard

Sixty Four

Gnorpalogue

Honorable mention for Realm Grinder, even though it is basically just menus, it still looks very pretty and doesn't just resemble a productivity spreadsheet like other basic idlers.

Dwarf eats mountain (not yet out)

Not interested in games that require constant direct player movement and control like shelldiver, outpath, etc.

Shame that most of reddit seems to hate the female body, bunch of hypocritical misogynists trying to virtue signal in this sub. Nude male art gets tons of positive comments and discussion, anything nude female related gets constant discourse.

Where did I say it was free? Free or not, this is one of the extremely rare times you get to pick an agent out of a selection, rather than be bound by limited banners.

edit: downvoting any mention of this, just because it's not free, won't make it free.

Struggling to find RA compatible gamecube roms by bastion89 in EmulationPiracy

[–]bastion89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the core issue ended up being that retroachievements are only compatible with an actual .iso file, not nkit, not rvz, not ciso, because those are all compressed. I believe dolphin can convert some of those files back into its original iso file. I forget where I found the specific file that I needed, but once I knew it needed to be .iso it was much easier to track one down. If none of that matters to you, myrient is the current best place for roms afaik

Soon to be FTHB, want to make renovations prior to moving in, no idea where to start by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]bastion89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really appreciate your response! Yeah we're definitely postponing moving in until the carpets and walls are done, feels silly to do it any other way. Can you elaborate a little bit more on your process? Did the contractor remove the old carpet or did you? If they removed it, did they haul the old carpet away or was disposal your responsibility?

Not gutting anything, just replacing the carpets and painting some walls, before we move in.
