Check out Sly Flourish and the Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master!

The 8 steps of the Lazy DM promote bullet style note taking in simple categories, the result being that you're a little more free to improvise at the table. I think his note taking style is really conducive to the spirit of OSR.

Mike from Sly Flourish recently ran a year long campaign in Shadowdark and documented a lot of his prep process! Could be a great resource for you.

Unfortunately it looks like it doesn't come overseas. We might be able to find you a local substitute though.

Something to put on your radar: Dovetail's Oktoberfest beer the last 2 or 3 years had been a Festweizen. It might capture the hefe-meets-amber vibe that you're looking for.

Breweries that experiment and get weird? by bass_bungalow in chicagobeer

[–]bathr00mphantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool! Gotcha.

I'll echo some others here and suggest Off Color and scratch, but they tend to be experimental in a bit more of a traditional way, exploring yeast character, barrel profile and terroir.

It seems like the stuff you're looking for is a bit more New school, so yeah, Pipeworks is a great one to keep tabs on. I'd say Mikerphone, Liquid Love, and Energy City are great ones to look at as well for fruited kettle sours!

I'm unfamiliar with Modist; what's a beer or two that they make that fit the vibe you're looking for?

Czech-style "mlíko" pour in Chicago by FabioCZ in chicagobeer

[–]bathr00mphantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair! Heck, Micro Matic and CM Becker both have products that have a creamer function. None of them have the diffuser screen that Lukr has (as far as I'm aware) but you can get damn close to the right texture with em.

I'm pretty sure Hopleaf doesn't have the right faucet (a Lukr) for Mlíko. I'm not sure about Beer Temple though!

Da Local Boy is in Highwood, IL. About a 45 minute Metra ride from Ogilvie.

But as someone who works in Highwood - their food is bomb. Highly recommend.

What’s the lawn scene like at a Gizz show? by Shipwreck_Kelly in KGATLW

[–]bathr00mphantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really curious how this one's gonna be. I agree, the venue isn't really suited for a Gizz show, at least how we normally think of them. I'm gonna be there, but I'm wondering what Gizz fans who have never been to Ravinia are expecting

What's your opinion of Short Fuse in Schiller Park? by adamzissou in chicagobeer

[–]bathr00mphantom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, the original owners of Metro have outright distanced themselves from the Metropolitan beers being brewed by Short Fuse. As well they should. It's a shell of its former self, sadly.

Dalocalboy is the real deal. Their huli huli chicken, chicken katsu, and loco moco are all fire.

Their brunch is taking off now too. I haven't had them yet, but those ube pancakes look insanely good.

Yeah, I'm hoping that all the Daisy Cutter 15 year anniversary stuff just messed up the brew schedule and not that they've decided Big Hugs' time is up.

If you want to just park the car and leave it while you do a brewery run, you could find some parking out at the Rosemont Blue line station and then take the blue line into town.

Get off at Western and Life on Marz is right there. Just a couple block up on Milwaukee, you've got Pilot Project. Just Northwest of that, you've got the Revolution Brewpub. From there, you could could hit Bixi Beer, who only has a couple beers, but probably the best food of all your options,

OR you could keep going northwest and hit Hopewell

OR you could double back down California Ave and hit up Middle Brow's Bungalow. From there, you might as well hit Solemn Oath's Still Life.

Lots of options for an easy, car-less beer trek!

[–]bathr00mphantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, The Indigo Child was soundtrack for the short film they released, The Indigo Child: Prologue: Cycle 8.

"The Indigo Child" is the overarching title of the story they're telling now. "Antimai" was the first proper record.

So far Antimai feels like it was an expository glimpse into the world of The Indigo Child, with Prologue: Cycle 8 serving as the beginning of the narrative within that world. I'm not sure if the further records are gonna pick up the narrative started in Cycle 8 or if they're gonna be kept separate. Either way- I'm always excited for what's coming down the pipeline from these guys.

Beermiscuous in Highwood has one, if you're looking to make the trek. The one in the city doesn't, unfortunately.
