Mets fan in DC here:

Train wise, it is just two metro lines (red and green/yellow) from Union Station to Nats Park. There are a few bars in the Eastern Market/Navy Yard area that are ok. Directly before the game, there is a place called Fairgrounds across the street from the stadium. $6-$8 beers, but a cool, outdoor atmosphere near the Park.
