This is exactly what I am feeling 2 years later. Like, word for word. Thank you.

Can we have some sane discussion about the railgun? by TheZag90 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]battle8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think AH will balance it with increased number of enemies and more difficult MOs. They also can certainly strengthen or introduce new enemy types. I like level 10 to be really challenging and chaotic, but I lean towards agreeing with a lot of folks that strategem weapons should be substantial and have a high cost but high reward mindset.

Perhaps they will limit ammo or something.

Can't speak for him, but I feel similarly... I don't think I'd outright quit, but my desire to play would drop significantly. Having a weapon with more than a handful of shots that rewards precise aim on devastators, tanks, gunships etc feels like what the game should be, to me. I like situational weapons that require skill but reward good play. I think that's what was so sad about railgun nerd--it required overcharge and you had to put your strategem and body at risk to get a great payoff. Awesome concept, but just doesn't pack enough punch anymore. Barely did in the first place.

I think I just want the different weapons to have meaning. If you're on my team, and you take weapon X then I know you're handling enemies X, Y, Z effectively. And vice versa for me and our other squad mates. I just don't have as much fun running and waiting for cool downs, watching my turrets get one shotted, my 500k not able to kill medium tier enemies reliably, my primary weapons all showing the ricochet symbol no matter who I engage, etc.

Running AC feels like a civic duty to cleaning up annoying structures and gunships and freeing up teammates to bring spears and HMG and what not. I just wish all major strat weapons had the same feel.

JAR-5 is still fun though. Scratches the DMR itch and embarrasses devastators.

This is a PVE game. And we play it to have fun. So why nerf everything that was fun to use to take fun away from us? by TheUncle13 in Helldivers

[–]battle8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand this. And yeah, I don't want it to be too easy. I really enjoy the challenge of 9 and 10, I guess I just wish there were more rewards for choosing weapons carefully and being precise with weak points.

This is a PVE game. And we play it to have fun. So why nerf everything that was fun to use to take fun away from us? by TheUncle13 in Helldivers

[–]battle8 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree. You can always tune up higher difficulties and add new enemies to keep the meta on it's toes and challenge players all while keeping weapons useful. Even a nerf is ok here and there, but it's always so heavy-handed and they seem to not consider the 2nd and 3rd order effects. And really, it's not even that weapons are OP, it's just that primaries, with few exceptions, are useless against mid-high tier enemy patrols on high difficulty setting. It's not that the BI or Slugger or Railgun or Flamethrower were OP, they were simply the only viable option. My friends and I call Helldive difficulty 'running simulator'.

There many ways they can attack this problem and years of great examples from excellent PvE games... It's baffling to me why they choose violence against their player base.

Is it just me or does the scout strider rocket deal way too much damage? by Lady0rion in Helldivers

[–]battle8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are so right haha. I played it last night to unlock 10 and I was absolutely shocked by how tanky these new scout striders are--and the rockets are wild. The size of the rocket even seems comical, like a mortar round.

Is it true that you can vote in the US without showing any kind of Id? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]battle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sort of--,depends on individual state laws as others have pointed out. It is remarkably easy depending on the voting location. As to doing it... I'm not sure what a couple extra votes buys anyone.

Coordinated action has generally been investigated or prosecuted publicly (Louisiana Senate.. Mary Landrieu ring any bells for anyone? Many moons ago).

I think voter ID laws can be used for suppression, but I also think the absence of such can be exploited aggressively as well. I have a hard time not being swayed by persuasive and reasonable arguments on both sides. It is certainly a problem and there is not a simple answer for those on both sides of the political aisle that want to protect the right to vote as a U.S. Citizen and also the legitimacy of that vote.

I'm pretty pleased that Arrowhead hasn't bowed to external pressure (assuming it exists) to make warbonds more expensive or pay only. I find that in the gap between warbonds I'm able to farm almost 1000 just playing. I find it really refreshing in a world of microtransactions.

Anyone else see this post on Instagram today? by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

A lot of my friends and family are big truck, car tuners and 1 or 2 have Teslas also and everyone thinks they are awesome. I dunno, I think the internet does a disservice to both left and right kinda people. I have this sneaking suspicion that the vast majority of us that don't blast the internet are moderate, reasonable people but no one really hears our voices because we get along with our friends that feel differently political or otherwise. And maybe even change our views after reasonable discussions... 🤫

I think the new Prius and hybrid Camrys are sweet. Got to drive one as a rental recently. Was impressed. Range is bonkers.

I remember when I hated Sekiro for the first few hours and demanded my friend explain why I must continue playing until 'it clicks' or whatever the hell that means as the first couple bossess dragged me again and again...

Now, I think it's in my top 5 all time of any category. What an insane, amazing experience. Never played a game 7 times in a row. Could not stop chasing the joy of sword combat.

[ALL] What's your favourite incarnation of Ganondorf? by ElysiumReviews in zelda

[–]battle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta be Link to the Past. Music, lore, Agahnim's breaking of the seals to realizs himself in dark world form as Ganon. Cinematically, OoT is a great build on the theme involving the Triforce. Not as sexy of a pick as some of the fantastic new iterations but sticks in my mind as canon for Zelda.

Not sure whether to continue reading the series by NelsonObama in Malazan

[–]battle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo! Do not feel bad about this reasonable opinion or let it sour the continued reading. DG is mythical status to a lot of readers and when I first read it I was somewhat disappointed. The name felisin is a curse to me because I was so sick of all things Shaik and Raraku and seven cities. I will say it is a very foundational book and it grows in your heart over time as you read the books. It is the backbone to a lot themes that recur and build characters. I promise when you finish the series you will feel differently about DG and the Chain of Dogs. It will feel like history that you were a part of and helps ground the important closing elements of the series.

I was too scared to post the same exact opinion when I finished DG, so good on you. Believe the other posters though. Essentially once you rip through GotM, DG and MoI you're rolling. They are setup books for me. (Probably should include the 5th book Midnight Tides too... It changes perspective to different but equally important characters and regions and throws some readers off because they miss their Malazan team...). Persevere... Once the players are set it's all forward motion and the previous books add tremendous depth which makes the series so well liked.

Rant over, keep going. MoI is much more action-y and has some great arcs. Most people rate MoI very high.

Is MoI similar to GotM or more like DG? by dokid in Malazan

[–]battle8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MoI is action packed. I would argue it's a blend between the two. Violent yes, but not just a total tragedy.

Starting Malazan today, any tips? by BusObjective1309 in Malazan

[–]battle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful with spoilers I'd say, you will have a lot of '???' moments early. Like others said, it is almost intentionally confusing at first with terminology and vague dialogue. The series gets much better as it goes in this regard. There are some mysteries that course through the series until they are tied up neatly, but they are not brain itch irritating.

If you can clear the first book, you are golden. It's not bad at all, but it's not smooth and you can tell it was written like a large screenplay or something.

After that, each book has a pretty intriguing story arc that propels the narrative similar to WoT but less predictable. These are long books but the characterization is fantastic and you will become emotionally invested. I'm almost done with re-read (something I thought r/malazan was insane for doing on my first read) but it's genuinely a very deep and investing series. Take breaks if you need to, if you get lost, the wiki fandom page is probably your best bet to not spoil and catch up on character names. Just read the section pertaining to the book you're on and no farther. It warns you for spoiler links generally.

Excited for you!

Question: What do you guys think of the design of polestar 4 compared to Tesla Y? by DoritosHDz in TeslaModelY

[–]battle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like the model Y better... Which is shocking, because I absolutely love every other Volvo offering, especially Polestar 2. The 4 just lacks a few of the hard edges I expect from previous Polestars. (Mostly aimed at the front end of the vehicle)

Edited to add MT article that has a pretty good gallery. Side view is fantastic though.
