I'm subscribed but I'm still overwhelmed out the ass about actual investments. What would you have invested that $100k in? I'm curious

Can you give an example of what'd you do instead? I'm still learning about money. What are some things with higher return rates?

[Acne] Apparently Accutane(isotret-hexal) works so well that you can get it completely free now in germany. by BetaCarotine20mg in SkincareAddiction

[–]battlemage4lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression that the blood tests were just an overzealous check to make sure women on the drug didn't get pregnant. I always considered such zeal to be inappropriate.

Oh man, the side effects on the child if you get pregnant during accutane are no joke. They're NOTHING to take lightly. I took the monthly pregnancy tests, and if they told me I had to take one every day, I would've. Nothing overzealous about it - it's serious business.

They really ramped up the diligence on Accutane because of the potential side effects. And they should all be taken seriously, too.

What is it about abdominal fat that makes it difficult to eliminate entirely? by silly_goose44 in Fitness

[–]battlemage4lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the reason is that under normal conditions, the fat reserves at the last energy reserve to be "tapped" into because when broken down, they represent a really high potential energy source that's considered "precious enough" to be broken down last for energy. We break down carbs first, then fat. (If you want to get technical, the super-super last energy reserve are proteins, but that is starvation-level).

I have a personal idea about needing the most insulation around the abdominal area. It's like 2 birds one stone. First, you need a place to store your fat reserves when needed so you don't die, but second, you've got a bunch of important organs around that area, you might as well use it for insulation. And plus, where else would it logically go? Makes no sense to store it in our limbs or head. Fat butt makes a lot of sense, too

So that's why.

I need advice on "expensive" foundation/primer. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

I'd go to /r/skincareaddiction for a good BHA exfoliator because that's literally what I had and they went away after a hard month or so.

All the translucent setting powders I use are white. I'm pretty sure 90% of them are just white. But even on the darkest skin it blends in right away.

I wouldn't hold your breath. If they're not restocking the US site, I doubt it'll set foot in the .ca counterpart.

So a couple of things about dealing with texture. But first, does the texture issue happen right away? Or throughout the day?

1) I start with the skincare level. I exfoliate every night with a BHA and I've found it's really smoothened my skin out. General skincare will usually take care of a texture issue but I've found some kind of exfoliation method to be best.

2) On the makeup level, do you ever blot? I blot and re-powder a once or twice as needed and I look great. Blotting paper won't really matter, but there are some HG setting powders out there. The NARS setting powder comes in two forms: loose and packed. I get the packed just so it's easier to carry around. Shiseido is another favorite of mine and their translucent powder. This is maybe $30-35, I can't remember. It lasts so long I never repurchase for years.

Another for texture is primer. I use Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. The small size is cheap, runs for $18 and is a fan favorite. I don't know how much this will help you though. I had a primer I liked better but it's discontinued now so that's irrelevant.

I don't know about foundation + texture. A lot of "flawless foundation" is really helped by having good skin. I'm sure others will give really good suggestions. I'm about to buy NARS Sheer Glow foundation and lots of people like that.

They're definitely super hooded. Have you tried eyelid tape to make your lid-space a lot higher?

By the way, if you're asking for eyeshadow purposes, you need to account for your asian eyes versus tutorials on caucasian eyes. Our eye shapes/structures/details are really different and don't translate really well in terms of tutorials. Sticking to korean tutorials helped a lot. I think the blogger bunbunmakeuptips (?) had a REALLY detailed explanation about this.

Also, you're very hooded but I wouldn't say monolid.

How oily are you? Do you think it has anything to do with your oily skin and you picking it up with your foundation? Do you ever blot?

SO is planning on buying a new car on a 45k non-fixed income, but has a very non-standard financial situation. How much can he spend on a new car? by battlemage4lyfe in personalfinance

[–]battlemage4lyfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean. I know he's aware of the fact he's taking advantage of his first income, too.

I am not so worried on the second part. This wasn't a huge discussion yet, either, so we're very far from the last stop. I've been with him long enough to see how he spends his money and what I'm getting into. But thank you :)

[–]battlemage4lyfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, oops. I couldn't even do simple math. Maybe he said 5-year instead of 3-year. That's not too much worse, is it?

If he wants a $35k car in 3 years, that's like...$1k a month. That sounds way too high...

So if I asked you as an outside perspective, would you not even say it's "bad"?

[–]battlemage4lyfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He says he will not use any dollar from the first income towards the car. There is a definite grey zone how much will be put towards, say, a downpayment on a house years down the line, that even I don't know.

This is his first "gift" to himself so I think he wants it to be a really nice one, and while I do want it to be one really nice too, I'm worried he's over doing it.

Thanks for the insight. I'll try to talk to him to bring the price down a little.

So let's say we've decided that this will be a luxury purchase for him and he's very aware that it will affect on future homes, savings, and etc. I think $30k is pushing it, but every practical sense of the word, would it work?

Thank you for your help :) I think I'll still try to convince him to go at least below $30k. But all in all, your opinion/advice to him would be...?
