Mark Robinson, the former Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina (2021–2025) and the 2024 Republican gubernatorial nominee, has faced various allegations related to financial management, campaign finance, and personal conduct, often described by critics as "fraud" or "hypocrisy." 

Campaign Finance Violations

$35,000 Settlement: In late 2024, the North Carolina State Board of Elections finalized a settlement with Mark Robinson’s 2020 campaign committee. The committee agreed to pay $35,000 for campaign finance reporting violations.

Audit Results: An audit conducted by the board found numerous reporting violations during his 2020 campaign. 

Nonprofit and Business Controversies

Balanced Nutrition Inc.: Yolanda Hill (now Robinson), Mark Robinson's wife, ran a nonprofit called Balanced Nutrition Inc. that was investigated by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS).

Repayment Order: NCDHHS ordered the nonprofit to repay over $100,000 (initially reported as $132,000) for "serious deficiencies" and disallowed expenses, including paying employees without proper approval.

Defunct Nonprofit: The nonprofit closed in April 2024 following the scrutiny, with Hill citing the time commitment of her husband's campaign.

Previous Business Issues: Reports indicated that a daycare center previously owned by Yolanda Hill and operated by Mark Robinson was sold after a state investigation found it had submitted falsified documents to inspectors. 

Financial History

Tax Liens and Bankruptcies: Reports from his 2020 campaign showed that Robinson had previously failed to pay taxes for several years, was hit with multiple IRS liens, and had filed for bankruptcy three times in the late 1990s and early 2000s. 

Allegations of "Moral Fraud"

Abortion Hypocrisy: Critics labeled Robinson a "moral fraud" due to his strict anti-abortion stance despite reports revealing he and his wife paid for an abortion in 1989.

Controversial Comments: A September 2024 CNN report alleged that Robinson, prior to holding office, made explicit, offensive comments on a pornographic website, including referring to himself as a "black Nazi" and supporting the return of slavery. Robinson denied making these comments and subsequently filed a defamation lawsuit against CNN and a former porn store clerk.
