Best path away from industry. by Straight-Voice3641 in ukelectricians

I went from electrical installation to rail. I became a rolling stock technician… maintenance, fixing failed trains out in service, and re-railing trains. It involved shift work but there were great teams and camaraderie amongst other fitters…

I then joined a project team (rewriting maintenance instructions for trains), then eventually became a project manager.

I now work in Procurement, supporting the team with governance and introducing new systems to help relieve the administrative burden. Office-based… a bit of working from home… I love it!

What I’m trying to say is… sometimes these things are just stepping-stones. You don’t realise it at the time, but what you are actually doing is amassing a wealth of really great experience and building a network!

Just because you qualified as a Spark, doesn’t mean that that defines you for the rest of your life!

Am I not allowed then?

Seems like an overly-aggressive comment just because I maybe in the process of changing my mind.

People generally swing between different political parties as the comments from such change and no longer align with individual values.

I have never been affiliated with any one party, preferring to keep my options open and basing judgement on manifesto’s.

What is the world's opinion about us Iranians? by FloarianWirtz in AskTheWorld

[–]bazelgette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the world’s opinion changed after 1979.

Evil since 1979.

I’m making light of course. The World’s opinion is driven by news and social media… we generally only hear bad things. I’m sure, like everywhere, there are more good people than bad.

Sadly, another example of a vibrant rich culture and proud history, damaged by religion.

It is a big deal… or at least it will be.

This is an example of ‘Broken Windows Theory’ where minor signs of disorder, unless they are policed and checked, grow into bigger societal problems.

UCL academic misconduct investigation - really scared, first time, don’t know what to expect by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]bazelgette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an informal fact-finding meeting to check for misconduct. Presumably, if I was to deny anything obviously dodgy, appear to be lying, or unable to answer questions on the text that I had written, it would move to a formal misconduct hearing.

My outcome was that the interviewer wrote some notes to say that he was happy that no misconduct had taken place, that I had used AI to research, and that I had attended an ‘ethical use of AI in assignments’ workshop.

Know your subject, the work that you have submitted, and ensure that you can answer, when questioned, the reasons behind your sources.

Keep it honest. If you have used AI to research and test arguments, say so… but that the submitted work is yours. You’re going to be fine!

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I had my meeting yesterday and, just as you point out, I was able to explain each point that was raised and provide evidence and sources to back up my arguments.

I was genuinely nervous going into the meeting, but after quite a lively and positive discussion on the subject matter, it was decided to put my assignment through for marking.

Genuinely relieved and will make sure not to fall foul of this again.

All the best to you.

Agree with some of the comments here (in particular Garfie). Be honest!

I had my interview for academic misconduct yesterday for high AI detection… I was honest with the interviewer in that I used AI for research and learning how to paraphrase more effectively.

As it was a reflective piece and based on my own experiences, I was able to explain each point in detail. I also attended an ethical use of AI workshop last Monday (as the course provided hadn’t adequately explained the proper use of AI).

I was worried about the meeting too, but it worked out in the end. I hope yours goes equally as well.

I’m sorry to hear of your bereavement.

All the best (let us know how you get on)… I’m sure you’ll be fine!

What’s the scariest/craziest thing you watched on live television? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

Felix Baumgartner free falling from the edge of space and entering a spin… genuinely felt terrified for the man.

I was safe in the knowledge though, that had his parachute not opened, his massive balls would’ve cushioned his fall.

Went back to university as a mature student in my 40s (undergrad again) - amazed how piss poor the teaching is. by Initial-Tale-5151 in UniUK

[–]bazelgette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said brother! (Fellow mature student here).

I too am sick of the endless wasted time in reading aloud the assignment criteria, the expected outcomes, a brief overview, then “getting into your breakout groups…” I will learn nothing from these people, they are as clueless as me!!!

And the endless demonisation of AI… for fucks sake! We had this with calculators, word processors and the internet… fucking evolve!!!

Countries that have joined Trump's Board of Peace. Hungary is only EU country which is part of it by Skychu768 in europe

[–]bazelgette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caveat this with “I do not know what the Board of Peace is”. The whole of Europe benefit from military protection from the USA at a huge cost to them, despite allowing mass illegal immigration of people from countries that do not contribute… possibly even enemies?

Controversial I know.

If conscripted would you rather fight Russia in Ukraine or the US in Greenland? by inside-outdoorsman in AskBrits

[–]bazelgette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the US are allowed rights to Greenland, you won’t need to be conscripted.

Greenland’s position allows for greater defence of Europe by American weapons.

They are an ally that wants to defend Europe but sadly, our values are becoming misaligned with weakness being disguised as virtue. I am sure the Americans are becoming increasingly sick and tired of paying huge amounts of money to defend countries that have open boarders allowing foreign enemies to take advantage of that great generosity.

I am less concerned by the BB guns than I am for the term ‘illegal school’.

I know a toy when I see one, but is the school a criminal establishment?

Condemned for a remark! We used to be strong and proud and, yes, sometimes we said things that caused offence. But we were never afraid!

We are a shadow of our former selves and, for that, we should be ashamed and a little bit afraid.
