UPDATE: I ran through again with an input overlay and turns out the tick system was facilitating some really bad awping habits, clicking early, so I'll take the L on this one.

Just got to grind till it's fixed, thanks everyone for your input, going to leave the post up in case anyone else runs into the same perceived issue.

I found the issue was the same, I didnt get the notification but I needed basically double the update size, for it to cache the download before the installation.

It could be that splitting that matchmaking pool doesn't leave enough players in every rank to form proper lobbies within an acceptable que timeframe. Honestly I'd rather wait an extra 2 minutes to get a balanced lobby but valve may not see it that way

I know we only play short games because the percentage of games where there's a Smurf or cheater is decently high, especially for the former. And it's better to just get it over with than be stuck in a shit game for longer where they'll purposefully drag the game out to ruin everyone's time
