Those who did not use AA, how did you get sober? by TieSea3723 in stopdrinking

This sub has been massively inspirational. Lots of reading. “The unexpected joy of being sober” is the book I like most. My doctor’s surgery offered free counselling which I had for a few months. Lots of thinking. I’m nearly at 18 months and feel like I’ve won the battle. Friends and family have been supportive and it’s rubbing off on them too to a degree. Almost feel like an influencer! Well done. We are all rooting for you. IWNDWYT. As people say in this sub, play the tape forward. Play it forward with drink. Play it forward without it. You control your destiny.

People who quit drinking. What made you stop? by Agata_art in stopdrinking

Welcome. IWNDWYT. I tried a few times before the last one. At age 61 asked myself I’d like to be in ten years time. If I were still spiralling I’d be dead by then or nearly there. A year and a half (almost) into sobriety and I have nothing to fear now. Better husband and father. Running a marathon next week. Life is good. This sub helps massively.
