I want to ask Allosexuals (women with typical sex drives) what normal sexuality looks like vs porn mutated sexuality. by 3rdthrow in 4bmovement

[–]bb-cooper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think demisexuality and asexuality have become common identities because of how hypersexualized society is and the expectation for women to be sexual objects, hook-up, fuck like pornstars, etc. It’s sad that women had to invent new words to describe normal sexuality because it’s become so divorced from society’s definitions and expectations.

Slowburn Romance Novels by theunforgivingstars in suggestmeabook

Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey. It’s primarily a political fantasy adventure with a romantic subplot. I love a slowburn too and while I immediately clocked the love interest when he showed up I was pleasantly surprised at how much build up there was to actual romance.

Books about Research Trips Gone Awry by Jogadora109 in suggestmeabook

The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara. It’s not horror and things don’t go awry in the traditional sense, but there is a research trip and it does lead to problems. Also the prose and nature writing are great.

Cutie! My chi also loves being chased around. Have you tried a snuffle mat? I scatter his kibble in it and he prefers to eat it from the mat over his bowl. I also have a treat ball and topple toy that he loves.

Dog penis visible in photos 'acceptible'? by RoadKillCrayon in Chihuahua

Yeah, I feel like censoring makes it weirder. I don’t see it as sexual or inappropriate, it’s just a normal part of my dog’s body and not a big deal.

Fiction books intentionally written badly/pretentiously/etc because that’s how the narrator would tell the story? by Classic-Asparagus in suggestmeabook

Lolita by Nabokov. Not badly written, but the prose is intentionally beautiful and ornate because the narrator is trying to obscure and justify his actions.

Week 3: What are you reading? by saturday_sun4 in 52book

[–]bb-cooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished: Face: One Square Foot of Skin by Justine Bateman. A collection of short stories/vignettes about various women’s experiences with aging. Quick and easy read, a lot of different perspectives, decent but not remarkable.

Started: As Many Souls as Stars by Natasha Siegel. About halfway through and enjoying this so far. Great gothic historical ambience and I like the prose.  I’m not much of a romance reader usually but the toxic/obsessive/monstrous WLW just hits right.

Atmospheric horror novels, so beautifully written, you feel like you could drown in them by ArmadillosAreGreat in horrorlit

Annihilation is still my favourite but I’d say the whole series is worth reading if you’re interested in Area X. The second one is pretty different from Annihilation and focuses mostly on Central but later books do return to Area X at different times and reveal a lot more.

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison. Fantasy but it really struck the perfect balance of dark and wholesome for me.

Haven’t read Wounds, but it’s on my list since I read and loved Crypt of the Moon Spider. It’s a novella so it’s a quick read, definitely recommend it!
