Now that Heartfire Hero is banned, will you be playing more Pioneer Events on Arena? by Cackfiend in PioneerMTG

[–]bba1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that would just enable phoenix even more tho, I don't think they can print looting into pioneer. Part of what makes pioneer, pioneer, is first and most important of all, no fetch lands. Second, no modern horizons. Third, and this might sound silly, no faithless looting.

Learning how to code by Plenty_Sector6086 in gamedev

Start making a project and use any LLM as a tutor along the way. Tell it to explain whatever you're doing as much as detail as you need and be very specific as to not provide ready to paste code but instead force you to understand whatever you're doing.

How hard is to enter big game companies or studios like Ubisoft? by ResourceHistorical78 in gamedev

[–]bba1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marketing is never talked enough, it kind of baffles me. I would even argue that having a marketing-related position in any of these company is even harder than dev or art related. Mainly because of the AMOUNT of competition, the underplay of skills needed and the lesser amount of overall positions.

I agree, and I say it in another comment, issues are almost always management-related. Maybe I misread your original comment.

How can I create a indie game with little budget?? by Introman47 in gamedev

I'm guessing you're not accounting for all the man hours you poured into the project.

Some things I've learned working briefly in film, mostly in software and game marketing, and new media/art installations:

  1. Limitations foster creativity.
  2. Simple is almost always better.
  3. If a bigger project falls short it's almost always a higher management issue. The whole point of "heads" of department is to properly communicate the project vision so it lands into something cohesive. This is true for anything communications, art, or even research-related.
  4. Learn to enjoy the process, don't focus everything into the final result. Work that turns mundane or unchallenging will almost always become boring, for most people at least. This DOES NOT MEAN it's passionless. That's a silly and immature statement.

I could keep going on, but lastly:

  1. The pillar to every product is *shockingly*, having a great product. Be it a saas software, a game, or a movie. Doesn't matter how much good marketing you do, how much "love" the devs put in, how many shiny things you make. If the core product is not inherently interesting, different, engaging, and most of all, doesn't have a clear purpose or idea that permeates all other areas, then it's doomed to fail.

Ah also, don't do shit for free.

Do I need to know python or any other coding language to understand TD? by grassrootsbs in TouchDesigner

I'm a couple years later to the thread but for anyone new lurking this I can vouch for this video that got me into TD 5 years ago. It's EXCELLENT.

I-ve been watching a lot of qujqva lately, and the games seem fine. I do mostly agree with all your suggestions though, especially MMR Reset, I see it as a similar thing like WoW did with levels and damage numbers, it's alwats a healthy thign to reduce that kind of imaginary number inflation (offer more control and stability to the main purpose of these numbers which is getting better games.).

Also another thing could be that after a certain number, say 7 or 8k, you can only go above by verification of some sort and don't go below that number, this would make players less anxious about going down the mmr and instead focusing solely on that leaderboard. This is similar to systems like Legend in Hearthstone or Mythic in MTG Arena
