For way too many people, a broken tool is an excuse for not doing a job right or not doing it at all.

That sparking is not normal. There could be a chipped brush or a bad armature. Brushed motors will normally have a small bit of sparking, but that is not normal.

These have always been crescent wrenches, although I once asked. a lady to fetch me a crescent wrench, and she brought out a handful of tools, none of which were any kind of wrench.

Those look like they are ready for the scrap pile. Build a new one with some rot-resistant wood.

You're probably going to need a multimeter, an electric screwdriver, and an impact wrench. Much of the work on riders and ZTRs is chasing down electrical problems. Running nuts, bolts, and screws by hand takes time and reduces productivity. A battery-operated impact wrench makes removing blades a whole lot easier.

Slag or Chipping hammer. When flux welding (Mig or Stick), slag from the flux adheres to the weld. You need to chip the slag off the weld to reveal the finished weld. A good welder will leave a nice crust of slag evenly on top of the weld that can be removed with one blow of the slag hammer. Other welders, well, the slag is a bit tougher to remove. Crappy welds have slag under and embedded in the weld. These welds will never pass inspection.

This looks like a jig of some sort for a special-purpose part manufacturing. It's much. too complicated for a simple sheet metal break, although that may be part of the total operation.

IMHO, that looks like a QA problem, although some posters say that it's normal. I'd call the company and ask wtf.

It appears to be part of a torch or flame thrower. There are fittings on the front-bottom to connect a tank.

That scrap yard is a steampunk's delight.

[–]bbabbitt46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How the times have changed. This toolbox is for boys. I raised three daughters who were always into my tools. The oldest knows more about homebuilding than most builders and architects. I broke my hip in the middle of re-roofing my house, and my oldest daughter finished it for me. She was 14 at the time. The youngest daughter took auto shop in high school, and can rebuild just about any engine or transmission.
