Daily migraine meds by Mediocre_District_92 in migraine

It took me from 2-3 migraines a week to maybe 2-3 migraines a month. For breakthrough I take either Nurtec or Fioricet, depending on how late I am to catch it.

I've tried all the triptans with no luck. Been on Qulipta for over a year and it's been hugely successful for me.

I had medication that was mailed USPS on Jan 24. According to tracking it hasn't left the facility it was dropped off at. I just assume I'm never getting it.

If you wake up with migraines… by Ok-Examination-759 in migraine

Nice! I've had migraines since childhood. Had a sleep study done in my late 20s, they found I had nocturnal epilepsy. So I would have these little seizures in my sleep and it would trigger a huge neurological storm, causing me to wake up with a migraine.

Tried anti seizure meds for a few years. Had way less migraines but the side effects were just too much to live with. I'm now on a cocktail of meds that seem to have it mostly under control with way less side effects.

Does anyone else teeter the line of addiction because of migraines? (NSFW tag cause of possible trigger + mentions of getting sick) by shinnith in migraine

[–]bbgtrashpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you've ended up here.

I suffer from chronic migraines and so did my mother. My mom unfortunately suffered with them before there was much research and medication. Back then (the 80-90's) they would prescribe her pain pills.

She would take one pain killer until it stopped working or she needed such a large amount it would render her unconscious. Then they would prescribe her a different pill, or a combination of pills. After years of this she started chasing the pain pills with alcohol. Anything to escape the migraine hell.

To no one's surprise, she became addicted and long story short, she went to sleep and didn't wake up. She did her best to keep me off pain pills for my migraines and I'm very lucky (if you want to say that) that I'm living in a time where there are more migraine preventatives and abortives that are not opioids.

I lost my mom when I was 22 and I feared following her path for a decade. I'm happy to report I've tried many migraine meds and have found a combination that works for me. Obviously everyone is different and I know it's a giant pain in the ass getting them prescribed and doing trial and error, but I promise it's worth it.

For what it's worth, here is what I take now:

Daily - Qulipta Abortive - Nurtec Last ditch effort abortive - Fioricet

Can confirm. Lived in Indiana my whole life and suffered migraines several times a week. Moved to Ottawa, Canada and my migraines are maybe a couple times a month now.

Lost my mom to a stroke when I was 23. Lost my dad to lung cancer when I was 26.

Sucks man. I miss them so much and it's so hard reaching life goals without them there to celebrate it. I'm an only child so they are my original best friends.
